What can I eat in the mushie phase?

Recommended Posts

I have been to the dietician and read over the info she gave me but all it says is pureed stuff, getting lumpier over the two weeks and gives examples of chicken and veg with gravey.

So if I cook a Pasta meal for my family can I have some of that pureed down, what about something with rice, can I have that pureed down?

Are there foods I should not puree? I only thought of these questions now and she never said there was stuff you can't puree but then all she said was puree chicken and veg as an example.

If you can get it to babyfood consistency, I think you can have it.

you can have that stuff but...your first goal should be to get into as much Protein as you can, then veggies, then carbs.

i'm finding that a week into mushies I can barely get down enough Protein (about 1/4-1/2 cup) at a time. you may want to start with a mushy protein and after you finish that, if you are still hungry, go for the carbs.

typical meal for me has been 1/4 c. of refried Beans or hummus, 1-2 scrambled eggwhites and a sprinkle of reduced fat cheese. i've also been pretty succesful with about 3oz. of flaked fish (sole, cod, halibut).

Kristen is right, make sure you are doing Protein first! My doc won't let us have bread, rice or Pasta for the first 6 mos. I think it is more about not eating bad carbs in the beginning, so we are focused on healthier foods.

Make sure you check the diet forum, there is a whole area devoted to sharing recipes - there are some great ideas! I love ricotta with marinara, warmed up in the micro, yum! I also ate refried Beans with a sprinkle of cheese and salsa. I am able to tolerate scrambled eggs, so that was something I made often.

Mushies is a great stage, it was so nice to be off the liquids!

My surgeon told me that pretty much anything I could eat if I didn't have any teath was fine, but try to look kind of healthy...just because you can eat it doesn't mean you should...

Stay away from noodles rice and Pasta. All they will do is make you more hungry. You need mushie Protein. cottage cheese, eggs, tuna salad, etc.

1cup skim ricotta

2 eggs - separated

1/4c frozen chopped spinach - thawed / drained / dried

1tsp lemon zest

1tsp dried basil

1/3c finely grated parmesan or romano cheese

salt / peper to tast

i olive oil 4 cupcake tins - then combine all the ingredients except the egg whites. after whipping the egg whites, fold them in and equally disperse into the cupcake trays. cook @ 350 degrees for about 20mins till golden brown.

1 cupcake size is MORE than enough - but very satisfying. my mom made this many different ways growing up...you can play with the ingredients., she likes to use roasted eggplant a bunch in her mixture - but again, there can be so many variations....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
