I'm waiting for October 3rd so i will be done with my 6 month diet and stuff will be going into insurance. Toward the middle of October I should be having my EGD and getting a surgery date...I was already told it will probably be November 3rd or 10th. I don't care which one I just want an official date! Everything has been going so fast and now it seems so slow!

The diet is mainly cutting calories and cutting portions. You need to get off carbs and carbonated drinks. They just work with getting you to eat healthier. I am 9 weeks out and I think I need to go back to Lindsey for seom diet counseling, starting to get back into some old habits. Dr. Kaplan wasnt too happy that I only lost 1 pound in a month. Gotta work harder. Now that I am working harder at it, my sugar is dropping. So I gotta work something out. .. You will end up going down to a 1200 calorie diet. Sucks at first, but you will get used to it. Good luck with everything.

My diet started at 1200 so I need a few tricks right off the bat to help get through some bad habits. First since it was still really hot I got an icee maker machine, used crystal light for flavoring but I used like 1/4 the Water to give it more taste. So it was like a slurpee but 0 calories. The other place i had trouble was night time snacking. For this a hot air popcorn machine was suggested. It seemed to take care of the desire as for junk food with a small amount od calories until I was ab;e to break the habit of movies and tv, or at least eat something even better like fruit. Honestly its been the first time I could remember my tummy growling and me knowing exactly what I could or couldn't eat. It really didn't take long to get use to it, and seeing the weight come off was great inspiration,

1200 Calories.....woo....that is going to take some work. I've been tracking the number of calories im currently eating on myfitnesspal.com and im averaging 1400-1600 a day. (And I thought that was really cutting back! ----Sad, I know!)

My biggest trouble is trying to figure out the number of calories im consuming when eating something homemade...like a casserole or something. I am going to try and spend some time this weekend entering the recipes into myfitnesspal to see what it says. Hopefully that works...otherwise...I will mainly be guessing. I have a hard time with that.

I am doing better by adding more exercise to my week. Im going to Zumba Gold classes on Monday, linedancing Wed & Thurs. I love them both!

How much exercise is required pre-op?

I have no idea what Zumba Gold is,but line dancing sounds like fun. I keep thinking where we live they should have something like that but nope, just boonies and more boonies, unles you go to Charleston or Huntington and I don't drive that far. When I was on a diet previously that was 1000 I had trouble when I made things like that, now I'm pretty much doing like 3 - 4 oz precooked chicken, steak, or whatever and 2 veggies and a salad where I only have to count the fat free dressing. I have like 5 days figured out right now that I know I'm under 1200. But I'm always looking for something new, especially dinner, since Breakfast and lunch are easily to know. Now if I could learn to like fish, soy and a million other things :rolleyes2: but inch by inch. If you run across any good ones that are under 300 let me know. I keep telling my hubby if I am one of thise who has trouble with chickem I'll be living om baby food for dinner the rest of my life, saeriously if I have to, to loose the weight I would

I think it must be differant for each oerson, since my exercise abilities are low, where I break easier, I did get an eliptical from Sams and I use it. Low to No impact according to dr on my knees.

I've been to the line dancing classes in Scotts Depot...past Charleston. There is a really good group of line dancers down there. Its called Extreme Country Linedancers. They are a lot of fun. I would still be going down there if it werent for the hour drive and the high gas prices. :rolleyes2:

You want a total meal under 300 calories? I have a huge binder full of weight watcher recipes that are really good! I will look through them this weekend for some to email you.

I would like to be able to start enjoying fish. But it has to not taste like fish. Im not a fan of that. I've heard salmon (spelling?) is good. However, I really wouldnt know how to prepare it. I've thought about trying out different recipes with fish....but I just havent gotten the nerve yet. I hate to waste all that money and then it tastes awful! If anyone has any recipes for seafood that is really good and low in fat.....I'd love to have them!

As for Zumba Gold....go to youtube and type in zumba. It is a toned down version of it. Its a latin dance aerobics. Zumba is a toned down version of that. I would like to work up to Zumba...but it may be after the band...when i've got less weight on me and hopefully am in better shape.

The only fish I've found that I can tolerate is Talipida, I haven't learned to fix it myself though, but it comes in frozen form and 4 oz of that is way under 300, but I have to admit I still tend to stay away from it. My poor budgets screaming already. Salmon I've tried but I have no tolerance for whatever those little bones are called so that came off my list in a hurry. For me its no fishy taste and no bones, so that made it even harder. Being fat I never thought of myself as a picky eater. Seems like a really bad oxy moron. Sweets are totallt gone and I use wheat Pasta once in awhile, its actually allowed on the 1200. My other problem is I need more Calcium. Not a milk lover either, but working on yogurt:thumbs_down:. They did tell me that the most import thing once I'm on solids after banning was Protein so thats my focus for now, and my flintstone chewables LOL twice a day. :rolleyes2: couldn't find the bugs bunny chewables. I'm stocking up on Atkins Advantage now incase I need them more than I expect to. From what I've found around gere they are the cheapest, best tasting if you buy them in the large pack that has 12. Theres a lady on ebay with coupons for the 4 packs. I keep saying I'm going to watch for the Vitamins and shakes to go on sale and stock up big since at least the vitamins are forever after banding.

My boss (who is a huge exercise buff) take Syntha 6 for Protein. She really likes the taste. I looked it up - it is a huge jar (2.9 lbs). It runs around $20-$30. I thought I would try it once I am banded. It has 4 or 5 different flavors - she drinks the vanilla all the time. She says it helps to keep her from getting hungry.

I cant wait for my appointment next Thursday. Im dying to get this started!!! Plus...I have been losing weight since I added the Kellogs Fiber Supplement drink mix and a Fiber One Bar every morning. (The only change I made in my diet.....and im losing weight now.) Which would be a good thing....BUT I'd like to get my weight on record before I lose any more! Its funny......I couldnt lose weight for NOTHING before and now that im at the beginning stages of this....I have lost 4 lbs! ??? Who knows!!!

I was given a list I could choose from and if I went off list the criteria was for every 10 calories at least 1 gram of Protein. So you might want to check that out. I know what you mean about loosing, I don't get it either other than I've been sick with a stomach virus and a cold since i started and I know that helped, now to see if I can keep it up. OMG I keep wondering over the site and I'm in slippage now, yuck. :girl_hug:

Oooooo yeah...I read about that. You need to avoid throwing up to help prevent it. I dont know what happens if you have the flu. ??

Thats a good question, I know I won't be skipping my flu shot for sure. I need to add some info on the Protein drinks, remember this is just my Drs opinion

*For every 10 calories at least 1 gram of Protein

*Sugar should be less than 10 grams

*Sugar alcohol should be less than 5 grams

I picked mine based on cost and taste. I'm paying about 1.10 oer shake without any coupons.

WVU I just sent you a message, I'm trying to learn how all these things work. Hope it got there

Whats the difference between sugar and sugar alcohol? I dont think I've ever saw that on a label before. Im going to have to check that out. That is a good rule of thumb: 1 gram of Protein per every 10 calories.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
