Am I freaking out over nothing?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Aug. 12. I've lost 10 lbs and for some reason I feel like I should be losing more. I'm starting to feel discouraged. I have 75lbs to lose and I know that is in the first few months that you see the most rapid weight loss. Am I freaking out over nothing? I've seen other people's postings that say theyve lost 26 lbs by now! Another thing, anyone tell me an easy way to add a weight loss ticker to my profile?

Many people lost some of the weight during their preop diets. I didn't have one, but most people do. The PA (she does the fills) at my surgeon's office said the majority of people don't see any significant weight loss until they begin to get fills/restriction. She was amazed I had lost my weight before my first fill. The reason I did, was because I actually had some restriction from just having the surgery. I ate the 1/2 cup of food I was told, then stopped. Luckily, that amount was keeping me full for 3-4 hours. I was fortunate.

Please do not get discouraged. Everyone is different. Also, you have 75 lbs to lose; I have more than a hundred. Keep it in perspective. You are doing a good job. Keep up the good work and don't be so hard on yourself. Follow your doctor's instructions and go for your fill as soon as they let you. This will help.

:biggrin:BTW...my first fill was virtually painless!

I got banded on August 20th- last Wednesday. I have lost a total of 25lbs so far BUT I lost 12 of that on my pre-op diet. Did you have a pre-op diet? I have been on liquids since August 12th- so I think thats why I have lost so much so fast. Don't get discouraged, it will start coming off. Keep a positive attitude.

Thanks! Did they numb you up before they put the needle in to fill you? I'm a little bit nervous about the fill.

I think some places do. My PA didn't. The needle is small and I guess I was expecting the worst. I had my hands above my head and was looking at the ceiling. She poked around the port area to find it and I didn't even feel the needle go in. During the fill and immediately after it just feels a little "weird". I can't think of any other way to describe it. Believe it or not, the only thing that hurt was when she pulled the band aid off before doing the unfill!:cursing: Neither one of the needle sticks hurt me at all. It was painless.

Some people don't have pleasant fill experiences, but neither my friend (same surgeon) nor myself had any pain at all.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

Cindy

I dont think you need to be freaking. People lose at different rates. I was absolutely thrilled by my weight loss compared to my previous efforts, I'd actually NEVER lost more than about 15lb before in my life, and it took me 2 and a bit years to lose 100lb, but it never occurred to me that this was what others would call slow. Honestly, it was steady, lasting and dependable, what more would I want?

Youve got less to lose than a lot of bandsters, and that often means you dont get quite the same initial HUGE losses that many do.

10lb since 12 August is actually pretty darn good, it only has to keep up at that rate (which you spur it along with more fills and exercise) and you'll be slender in no time!

I also was banded on the 12th and I've only lost 2 pounds. I saw my doctor yesterday for my follow up and he said not to give it a moment's worry. Your body has been through a huge shock and it takes some time to recover normalcy. Right now it's holding onto every calorie it can get and slowing your metabolism cause it doesn't know what's happening. He said once we move on to solid food it makes a big difference, the body doesn't know what's going on with the liquids and prolongs the starvation reaction. I know very well that it's hard to be patient and easy to be down on yourself, but give yourself some time, you and I will start seeing the weight fall off very soon!

Actually I think it's great you've lost anything at all! And 10lbs is great! I've heard and read on here that the first 4-6 weeks is for healing only and if you happen to lose, it's a nice side benefit. Until you start getting fills and proper restriction and exercise, losing is a crap-shoot. So. I think you should stop worrying! I think you're doing great! Everyone is different and loses are going to be different, just as fills are going to be different.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
