Anemia since being banded?

Recommended Posts

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />I was banded March 13 2008

Ok so when I was last at the doctors I told them that I had been feeling extremely tire and have also been bruising easily and craving ice.

So they did some blood work which they got back yesterday.

Turns out that my Iron count is very low.

Before anyone asks

I take Centrum chewable which has Iron every day.

I also take B12 daily and biotin.

I also eat Protein at each meal and eat spinach and Broccoli every day. All which are iron rich.

So now they want me to start taking an iron supplement. I also need to go back in a few weeks for more blood work to see if the iron supplement has helped. They said they will test to see if it is Vitamin deficiency Anemia or Iron deficiency anemia.. Apparently these is a difference between the 2.

Has anyone else had this problem? I was banded March 13 2008

Thank you so much

I have the same problem, I had a physical in Feb of this year and mine was at a 11 (normal 12-15) so back then I had a little anemia and 2 weeks ago I went and they said it was worse I was at 9.4, the doctor also said I needed supplements but I can't take them, Iron makes my stomach hurt so much and it makes me feel like I need to throw up. I will try eating more but lately I have no appetite.

I had a bad case of anemia a few years ago that was detected by a blood test for something else. I had always had really heavy periods since I had kids and ended up getting an uterine ablation which solved my problem with anemia. Don't have to take the Iron anymore. I used to half freeze bottles of watter to a slushy consistency, that's what I preferred! Weird how that's a sign isn't it? I remember when it got really bad I was actually falling asleep on 30 minute road trips in the car, my husband was driving. So be careful and hope you figure it out soon, Nancy:smile:.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair. Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end. That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
