Is Anyone's Restriction "Stable"? Or Do I Keep Getting Fills Forever!

Recommended Posts

So I'm going for my 4th fill today. I maintain good restriction for about 4-6 weeks, but then it seems to dwindle. Is there a point where the restriction is maintained and you don't need to get fills anymore?;)

I think it depends on the person. Everyone is different. As we continue to lose weight the fat that is around your stomach is "lost" too. That is one of the reasons we have to go back for maintenance fills. The fat diminishes and the band has to be tightened to accomidate that loss. Since we all have different amounts of fat, depending on how we are built, it will differ from person to person. That is how it was explained to me.

Banded 4/27/2007, last fill November 2007, two unfils since.. first unfil was .3 cc in January 2008, and last unfill was .4cc July 2008.

I have the small band that is marketed to hold 4 cc's.. I've had as much as 4.3cc's and now I'm just over 3cc's.

I LOVE MY BAND!

Leslie said it all . . . fat around the stomach diminishes and you get small fills to make up for it. It is also true that everyone is different. As you get closer to goal, you have less and less fat to lose around your stomach and it stabilizes. Once people have met goal, most people need little more than a checkup/tweak yearly.

My body is pear shaped. I never carried so much weight in my abdomen as in my rear and thighs (they are also the very last places where the fat is dissappearing as well).

I think I was lucky in that I must not have had very much fat around my stomach. I have only had two fills, the first one did almost nothing much to even talk about, the second was super restriction from day one until now. That was four months ago and this fill is still working strong for me. During these four months I lost 41% of my excess weight but it has not affected my fill level at all. I am beginning to think I may never need another fill, or if so, it will be only the tiniest of tweaks around final goal.

I think I'm close to my sweetspot too. I've only had two fills (one unfill) and I'm right where I need to be. We'll see in a couple of months if that changes. I am hourglass shaped (although I lost that shape for a while) and didn't have a lot of fat around my stomach area either. I'm larger through my hips and thighs - oh that fun panus (I think that's the correct term) too (PS here I come!!)...My shape is starting to come back and I've never been so happy to see an old friend (been missing 10+ years).

Banded 11/07

March 2008: Lost about 25 pounds

I started having port rejection problems that were just resolved in August 08.

I had a new port put in.

The surgeon said she filled my band all the way up to 4cc FULL.

I had great restriction but now just a few weeks later I feel like I can eat again.

Example, last night for dinner I had 1/2 a baked pork chop, mashed potatoes, and peas???

Can I loose the fill that quick?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
