What happens if...

Recommended Posts

I have been meaning to ask this and then I forget! But, I have a 6-1/2-year-old son, which means if he gets sick....I get sick...And twice when he has gotten the stomch flu I have gotten it and I usually get it worse than anyone else. Once I had it so bad when I went to the ER I had purple splotches on my face and the veins in my eyeballs were busted. The ER doc looked at my husband and then at me and said, "who has been strangling you." I said, No one. I have been vomiting all night long and dry heaving. So, this is my MAJOR apprehension. I am terrified when I get banded I am going to end up with the stomach flu and end up with a slipped band, because I tell ya, when I get this stuff it's horrible!!!!

Thank you

My advise, take Vit C, get the flu shot every year, continue to take care of your health. As for your son, when he comes home, make him throw his clothes in the dirty clothes basic or laundry room, make him take a shower, with anti bac soap. Get lynsaw (however u spell) spray your home, open the windows during the fall and winter at least once a week to air out the house.. that should reduce your chances of getting sick.. and if you do get sick like that.. throwing up every hour, not keeping liquids down etc.. go to the ER ASAP!! they will help. dont push it! okay :(

Good luck!

Just so you know... I did ask my surgeon that question because I am the mother of 4 children and the stomach bug usually passes through our crew at least twice a year, if not more. His answer was that if I did, I did and it probably wouldn't be a big deal. :banghead: So -- not really a good answer, huh?

BUT, as a person who also caught EVERY SINGLE THING they did, now I don't. The last 2 times they had the bug earlier this year, I made certain to wash my hands after every contact with them and to spray down every single thing they touched (couch, remote control, telephone, cup) with Lysol before I would touch it. They would be offended that I didn't want to get "germs" but now they just laugh and so do I because I don't get sick! Of course, I have been exercising a lot and eating better so that probably also contributes to my well-being. :(

HTH!

I read somewhere else that your doctor can write you a RX for aniti-vomitting medicine just in case or as soon as you come down with it. Every thing I have read says vomitting is not good for bandsters (especially when first banded). That being said, I have also read that some doctors say its no big deal. Which is true? I don't know, but my gut says too much stomach heaving can't be good for a bandster. Since you know you get the bugs, be your own advocate and get a doctor to prescribe something to have on hand. That's what I plan to do.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
