Dazed and Confused NZ

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Am not really sure what to do on these forums, i have been posting under the other NZ thread but wasn't too sure if thats the right way to do it so will give this a go

As posted before, i am a bit confused as to how to come to the final big decision of whether to have the band or sleeve. I was postitive about having the band but have been reading a few things about the sleeve and a friend of mine is adamant she is getting the sleeve and I start to wonder maybe I should to. Reading the posts on these pages can be quite scary, there seems to be alot of ongoing issues with the band eg swallowing and the tight feeling people get, just wondering if someone that has had it for a while could post me back to tell me if it does get back to some sort of normality after a while or is it an ongoing thing. I dont have a date yet but have been for all my pre appointments and now just waiting to hear back, but will probably be sometime in October.

Look forward to hearing from someone

I am having a band placed in 2 days. I wasn't a candidate for the sleeve but would have opted for the band anyway because it doesn't permanently change me physically. I think it is always important to leave myself an 'out' in life, whenever feasible. I think it helps the stress of a situation become easier to tolerate and, in the end, results in better success. Also, I am a nurse in surgery. The thought of altering my body's organs, when there is an alternate option that is effective, just seems to be a bit creepy and an unneeded hazard for other complications. I'd say start with the least invasive and then if for some reason it doesn't give the needed results go for the next least invasive.. i.e. the sleeve. I wish you well with whichever procedure you decide to have.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
