Do you have new cravings since being banded?

Recommended Posts

My eating habit have improved greatly since getting my band in April. I used to drink LOTS of diet soda, for example. Now I might have one or two a month, and I rarely crave it. (My doctor says a diet soda once in awhile isn't is fine.) I used to want fast food ALL the time. Now I couldn't care less about it. I don't even crave my all time favorite -- McDonald's french fries. I rarely even want chocolate or other sweets.

However, there are certain foods now that I crave that I never did before -- peanuts, mexican food (mostly nachos), and popcorn. Maybe it's the salt I am craving, but it seems weird that my tastes have changed so much.

Anyone else have new cravings?

Milk. I crave milk especially after I workout. Right now that is about it. TOM is weird though - I crave different food depending on my mood. I want to eat more, but my band is tighter and I can't. It's almost like torture! LOL

same here. i NEVER would pour a glass of milk or eat Cereal pre-band; but i have "tripled" my dairy intake afterwards, including cheese/yogurt. not sure why/how - but i don't take it as a bad thing.

I crave ice cream. I have always been addicted to it. Now I just try to have sf or the weight watchers kind. I also cringe when someone mentions fast food. Almost makes me sick to my stomach to think I used to eat that crap.

I crave salty and crunchy. Mostly chips. I have to not even be in the same room with a bag of kettle chips. tostitos and salsa. Trisquits with cheese. It MUST be the salt. Now that I'm used to extra Protein in my diet, I crave that a lot too. I keep turkey in the fridge for just this reason. One slice of Butterball Cajun Turkey and I'm satisfied.

I've always liked tacos, but since banding I crave tacos, soft or hard. I have to have tacos at least once a week. I never used to like cottage cheese, but since banding I love it.

Oh I've gone through a list of cravings since being banded in early April:

Wendy's Frosties (immediately after being banded)

DQ chocolate dipped ice cream (after first fill)

Chipotle soft tacos with corn (after second fill)

After my third fill, I can't really eat enough to warrant snacking (it's a waste of good hydrating opportunities) But, since my third fill, I've really begun to crave flavor- anything really strong in flavor. I've been putting salsa on a lot of things to add flavor. Salsa goes good with rice cakes or chicken, btw

I just started eating real food, although in small amounts. I crave meat, especially beef, Although today I had chicken breast. About 3 oz. and I cooked in wine and spices and shredded it. I also had a few tbs of pureed butternut squash with a bit of splenda and pumpkin pie spices. I took tiny bites and took the 30 minutes to eat it and chewed till my teeth hurt (only kidding). After the 30 minutes I had about an oz of meat left. I didnt' want to force it I felt strangly full, not like the old kind of full but a full feeling and totally quit eating.

I am going to a luncheon on Friday at my Aunts. I will have my Protein shake before I go, I have to have them for another week. And I will nibble on a bit of whatever meat they have, roast beef or turkey

and a small bit of cheese. That should be fine.

I hope I get down below 200 by the time of my first fill September. 19th. I went shopping for a Halloween costume, and I have to take it back it was a Plus Size very pretty witch costume sized 14-22 and it fell off me. So I can go back and get a regular sized large or xLarge one and not the Plus Size. YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Halloween party isn't till October 26th so I may be even a bit thinner by then.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
