The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am Cheryl and live in Asheboro, NC. I have battled this weight thing around 25 years. I have completed the shrink, sleep study, cardio and now am down to really deciding do I want to do this. I have only heard the doctors side to this procedure. Would someone be willing to tell me what their experience is with this. I want to know the good, the bad and the ugly not sugar coated. Thanks:thumbup:

Hmm so much to say really, the good a great tool to help lose the weight...

the bad is probably the pain from the surgery...and the limited liquid diet I am on at the moment...blah

the ugly...for me well the new scars I will have and the worry that I may have to have more surgery if my skin doesn't shrink up...

But I had my lap band surgery one week ago today, so it is still fresh...But I think totally worth it, I already have changed in this week as far as hunger and energy and making choices...

just make sure it is what you want and are willing to commit the time, it is not a cure all but a great tool to succeed

Good:

Losing 31 lbs within 2 months of surgery. Losing more than 10% of your body weight really makes a difference right away. Feeling great now, not noticing the band and just letting it do its job. Knowing that one year from now, with hard work, I will to be down 100 lbs.

Bad:

At 49, feeling like I was hit by a Mack Truck for the first few days after surgery.

Ugly:

Knew this, but dealing with plateau’s and the reality that this is not a magic bullet that it takes hard work and exercise. It is just a tool.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
