Any questions?

Recommended Posts

Hi all you UK bandsters!

I just thought I would pop on here and ask if any of you had any questions.

I am not the oracle:biggrin2: but I have had my band for nearly a year now, and I am about 6lbs off my initial goal weight.

I was banded with Surgicare in Manchester, had the op in the Alexandra in Cheadle and have been very happy with my aftercare etc (which isnt to say that I didnt spit out my dummy on more than one occasion)

I have had fills both at the MRI in Manchester and in the Priory in Birmingham - I prefer the guy at the Priory but it is a personal choice thing, he is much more agressive in his approach.

If there is anything that you would like to know just fire away, cant promise that I will know the answer, but I'll try!

Alcohol is fine hon, fizzy wine, larger and champers etc may cause you to feel like you are going to pop (and should be avoided!) but a vodka and orange type drink will be fine!

In the Uk they dont tend to fill as tight as they do in the US, I can still chug a drink down if I want to, I have never needed to sip my drinks, and I have still lost the weight.

Just be aware that there are SHED LOADS of calories in booze, and as it is a liquid it will just slip down, you can google for the calorie content of drinks -some sites have really good lists- and then just factor it in.

Hope this helps and if you need any other info just ask!

I do have a question, several in fact - and hope that you will answer - even though my post is so late!

1. How have you eaten? Did you count calories etc Did you do high protein/low carb or just low fat?

2. Do you exercise?

3. How much were you filled to?

4 Do you have any helpful hints??

I was banded a over a year ago - but have only just got my head straight, so have wasted a lot of time losing and gaining the same pounds.

Any advice much appreciated!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
