I have been on the fence with the RNY surgery for over two years. I have a great Doc picked out that has an outstanding track record. I just can't pull the trigger.

I never looked into the Lap Band just because the Doc had told me about all kinds of problems with this method. (The band will make its way into your own tissue and become a very big problem etc.etc.)

The more that I look into the Lap Band the more that I think that it would work better for me.

I just do not know what to do, but I have to do something.:confused2:

My surgeon performs both surgeries, and had a seminar with the pros and cons of both. I think your surgeon may not be as great as you think if he is pushing one type of surgery. We're all different and have different needs etc. I'd suggest finding a local surgeon who does both and attending a lap band seminar. For every "lap band horror story" there is a "Roux-en-Y" horror story....in other words, they are both big steps.

You need more research!

I like that suggestion of attending a seminar that talks about both. Even though I was definite on Lap Band I attended a seminar anyway (to learn more) and it covered both surgeries. I still went with the Lap Band and it definitely solidified my decision. With the lap band there is no malabsorption, no dumping syndrome, no rerouting or cutting of the intestines. Lap Band is the closest surgery to your real body. Also Gastric Bypass doesn't always work over time and some people gain some of their weight back. Although you could eat around the band too, but the plus is that you can always get more of a fill for more restriction. Also if for any reason you absolutely couldn't live with the band for some reason, it can be removed from your body. Good luck with your decision!

This was such a great response. I totally agree. I went to two seminars

for three different surgeons (two of the surgeons are in the same hospital) before choosing the surgeon I was most comfortable with doing my surgery. I also did a ton of research on all options before I made my

choice for lap band. This is not an easy decision to make. It's what is

best for you and only you. You should be number one in this choice.

Good Luck :mad2:

I figure there has to be a reason why 90% of Australian patients choose the lap band. For me, it certainly was the best choice.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
