Hi Everyone... my name is Maria... I am 33 years old, i am a married mom of two little ones.. 5 year old little girl and a one year old little boy. I have been enjoying reading in your forum... I am new to all of this. I have been overweight my whole life, im sure thats not new to hear. I am seriously considering the banding. I have an appt today with my general dr.. and i am going to mention it to him today. Are there any other steps i need to take..? Should i call my insurance company??? Thanks for all your help and guidance :)

Welcome to message boards!

I would call your insurance company to find out if they cover the procedure and if they do, find out what their requirements are. I've seen many times that people go through the whole process only to find out in the end that their insurance won't cover the surgery. If they do cover it, find out if you need a referral and find out who is an authorized surgeon. You will then be on you way once you've met their guidelines.

Good luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
