Amanda,

I feel your HUNGER :) I'm on day 9 of my two week Optifast and I'm not going to lie to you - it's brutal and my belly is always growling. Depending on your Dr. approved pre-op plan (ME: three shakes and 200 calories of "approved" veggies) you will want to space everything out. I have 5 meals, two veggie and three shakes, and my tummy still growls but it gets me through the day. You are lucky to only have 10 days  I have been keeping busy, cleaning the kitchen, shopping for post-op stuff and also checking this site - and the time really passes by quickly. So far there have only been two unbearable nights (I'm a night time snacker) and I just chewed a piece of gum to get through it. Hold on and you will make it! I just keep telling myself that this is only a drop in the bucket and my NEW life will be beginning very soon :cool2: Take care.

I feel your pain also. I am on day 3 of my week of pre-op diet but I can only have certain liquids, all of which ive become sick of already. I am starving and weak but I keep thinking what this will be in the end, something I have dreamt of all my life to be smaller. This is a HUGE step for the future probably one of the hardest parts. Hold your head high, you can do it!

I only did a 7 day pre-op diet, but it wasn't liquids. I followed the Atkins diet and it went well. I had no problems during and after my surgery. I did had to follow a post-op diet which was clear, full liquids for almost two weeks. It's hard I know. Especially when you have to cook for your family and you just can't eat anything. I did cheated a few times, but not to a point were I would eat a whole bite or a full spoon of something. I was happier when I started on soft foods.

Anyways, good luck to you and keep it up, you'll do fine.

I started my liquid diet yesterday and I have to say, it was bad but not as bad as I thought it would be. I drank about 4-5 bottles of Water, three slimfast optima shakes, 1 cup of low sodium broth, and an organic gerber baby food green beens package (allowed) just needs some onion powder and some pepper.

I have 13 days left of this liquid madness but I dont think I mind it anymore since you have to do it after surgery too.

In my opinion try drinking cups of hot liquid, that seems to alleviate some of the hunger pain.

Oh and please take your multi-Vitamins with your liquid Breakfast... I took the liberty in drinking them with Water when I first got up, I almost threw up. Empty stomach + water+ Multivitamin = disaster!

Good Luck

I must say, I am very hungry. I was banded on August 6th and am on full liquids for two weeks. I have been blending Soups like chicken noodle and have been eating cream of chicken Soups too. I have also been eating creamy yogurt. I am headed to hops and I am going to be very embarassed to ask the waiter if he can blend my Soup up...ha ha ha.

It will be worth it in the long run. Good luck everyone on your upcoming surgery. Make sure you have some pain medicine because you WILL need it, well at least I did. Drink lots of Water and do a lot of walking. I have lost 9 lbs since my surgery date and I have not weighed in 4 days.

I have found that warm broth really makes me feel better. It seems to be more filling for some reason. Try to be creative with your liquids, change them up so you aren't having the same thing all day everyday, that gets old really quick!

Amanda, I feel for you. I also started my 10 day ALL liquid diet today as well. I can have 800 calories worth of shakes and that's it! NO bars, broths, nothing except non-calorie drinks and the shakes.< /span>

So far, so good today. It helped that I was busy with appointments with the surgeon and pre-surgery tests. DH did need to eat lunch after we were through and I drank iced tea while he sat and ate. He felt really bad but I was totally fine with it. I think what helped is that I'm so excited about surgery today. With all of the pre-op stuff that I did today, it's made surgery that much more of a reality. We'll see what happens tomorrow. We'll be fixing dinner for my in-laws tomorrow so I'll have 4 people eating while I sit and drink a shake.

I did just discover a potential problem though. We usually keep a bowl of cheddar goldfish on the coffee table for DD (she's 2) and I will grab a few periodically throughout the day (I do keep track and post them on daily plate) BUT I didn't realize how much of a habit it's become until just a bit ago when I started to grab some. It was NOT mindful and I was NOT hungry!! I'm determined to not 'cheat' on this but how much am I doing that is not mindful but just habit? I'm going to have to really pay attention! Scary!!

I was banded Aug 6th too and I had to do Clear Liquids for a week...which was sugar free Jello, watered down cranberry juice, broth and Water and crystal light. Now I am in my 2nd stage (week) and I have to eat pureed foods...I put in the food processor chicken small (very small) potato, veggies and broth and mix it smooth, snack is sugar free pudding, applesauce, nonfat yogurt, smoothie, oh and Protein Drinks and powder which I have to add to my meals and Snacks. Water all day long about four five glasses. I did good my first week...this week I just feel like I am not doing anything right and I feel like a fatty. I weight my food only 1/2 cup with each meal. I am still sore and can not excrise or lift anything over ten lbs. I am walking around the block now and going to start two blocks tomorrow. I am reading all this stuff and 3 days in and someone is mowing their lawn ? How?

Ok, so obviously I was really optimistic yesterday when I posted! I think I was so excited that I was on a "high" until last night. It was so hard smelling the dinner that DH was making DD (pita pizzas, which I love!). I stayed in the living room while they ate until DD threw a fit and wouldn't eat til I sat with her and helped. She's feeling changes and she doesn't like them! (She's 2.) I did great though, didn't even lick the sauce off of my fingers! Then later really started to feel the effects of the lack of food and such a small amount of calories (800). Got dizzy/lightheaded and just generally not feeling very well. This AM is more of the same plus a little bit of a headache. Hoping it doesn't go into a full-blown Migraine. I won't be able to take my meds for it and I'll be in trouble.

On a good note (and just crazy!) since WI yesterday at the sugeon's and this AM, I've lost 2lbs!!! That's just nuts!!

Lisa, I know how you feel. I was banded on the 6th and am very sore over my port area. It hurts to bend down and pick something up. I have found that if I hold my stomach in with my hand when I bend to pick something up, it doesn't hurt as bad. I don't know how people were mowing their lawn and was starting to think I was the only one in this bad of shape. I am so glad that you have given me an idea with the chicken, veggie, and broth in the food prcessor. My doctor didn't give me hardly any instructions on what I can eat. They just told me that I had full liquids for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks of pureed foods and then 2 weeks of soft foods. I had no idea what I could puree but thanks for the info on what you are eating.

Thanks and hope your pain goes away soon.

I was banded two days ago. I lost 11 lbs pre sugery. My doctor told me 3 times what a difference it made for her as my liver was not as fat. The more you can loose the easier time your surgeon will have doing the surgery and getting your port in. You will be okay and so pleased with your self when you have to weigh right before your surgery. Hang in there, stay busy. Do some of the thing you won't be able to do for a few weeks after surgery like cleaning out your car. Just look at this one day at time.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
