How long should I be on liquids after a fill?

Recommended Posts

I got my second fill today, another 2 cc (yeah!!). I went to another Dr for my second fill as my surgeon was not aggressive enough with fills and I was feeling defeated.

My first Dr said 24 hours, this one said nothing (he had to rush out of the office after the fill and when he asked if I had any questions it didnt cross my mind).

Whats the average time after a fill to start eating again?

I had my second fill yesterday. My Dr said Clear Liquids rest of yesterday and today. Straight liquids tomorrow and then soft until I can tolerate more. I feel like I have restriction now. I can keep Water down. That's it. Problem is, last night, I was starving and felt like I needed to eat(headach, lightheaded) so I tried a Protein Shake and I couldn't handle it. It came back up little by little mixed with saliva(soor so gross) Do you think I am too tight? Dr said if water goes down, I am OK and it will get better. Still. my stomach kind of hurts.

Maybe from not keeping down shake yesterday. Any help is welcomed. Thanks!

Whats the average time after a fill to start eating again?

As mentioned, check with your surgeon/doctor's office; but with that in mind, our doctor (both myself and wife were banded) always told us 24 hrs on liquid, then 24 hrs "mushies".

His reasoning was that a change was being made to your physical condition, and you still needed a chance to get your body back in rythem (spelling?) and give your body a chance to "heal" from the change (even though it's a minor one).

His other reason was a psychological {spelling?} one in that it gave you 1 to 2 days to "think over" that you will be eating less, and "mentally" plan and accept that you would not be able to eat as much as you did before the fill (if you were increasing fill). If we were getting an unfill, he said to think of it as 2 days to think how you can stay "on track" instead of "filing in" that extra space you now have.

I'm sure it sounds backwards or something, but more or less he wanted us to keep the changes in our bodies "on our mind" - it kind of makes sense to me, but I'm not right in the head anyway!! LMAO:biggrin:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
