Tell the Truth, Did you cheat AT ALL on your Preop Diet?

Recommended Posts

can't speak for anyone but myself...and i didn't take it the wrong way at all. so no worries! i just find it really funny how the meaning of some of these words change as we all enter a new phase of our lives. before "cheating" for me meant eating another piece of cake because the first one tasted so good or having the plate of nachos piled high with all the toppings. and now...with this new mindset (specifically on that preop diet) it's like yeah...cheating is having a banana or drinking some gatorade.

no matter what...we're all doing something wonderful for ourselves and only we know how our bodies react. i'd love to see some of the doctors try and do this! i wonder how long they'd last. my doc is a confessed junk food junkie. and everytime you see him walking down the hall, he's eating something.

so go us!! we all rock!! :)

I was tempted a few times, by of all things some cheese in the frig thatI left for my grandson. Then I told myself. if I ate that cheese I was only cheating myself. So, I made in though the two weeks with no cheating. I also had to do liquids on for one week after surgery, and to be honest I was afraid not to stick to that. I have not had any nasuea! I am now nearly done with one week of pureed food, which is not to bad. I can honestly say I am not hungry. On Aug. 20th I start soft food! Then, I go back to the doctor on the 26th for my second follow-up visit. I lost about 50 pounds on low carb before the pre-op diet, because they told me the surgery would be easier if I lost some weight before hand.

I really have to disagree with you.

I've been working very hard for this for the last 6 months. I'm having surgery next Monday. I started a pre-op of shakes and no-calorie drinks on Friday, I have not had anything other than that. Do I want it? YES! Am I going to do it? NO! I was tempted to go to the store and get some fat-free broth and add some Protein powder to it and replace it with one shake (it would add up to one of my shakes), surgeon even said I could use my powder in something. BUT he didn't say I could have broth! He said shakes and no-calorie drinks.< /span>

Did I want a taste of my daughter's scrambled eggs this AM? YES! Did I have any? NO! I was also VERY tempted by the tuna that I got for her for lunch. Plain it's only 60 calories and 1/2 a gram of fat, probably wouldn't have hurt BUT it's not allowed, so I didn't have any of that either!

I'm not saying I'm a paragon of virtue, I'm just saying, there are people out there following the rules, whether you believe they are or not. It's up to you if you follow your surgeon's rules or not but don't paint others with the same brush. It's not fair. And you can NOT tell anyone else it's okay to go against their surgeon's advice and rules.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
