1 Day til Liquid Diet... 8 Til Surgery

Recommended Posts

So... I start my all liquid pre-op diet tomorrow and my surgery is in 8 days!! Wow... So intense. Im so nervous but excited at the same time. I've never been put to sleep before so im extremely worried and ive never even had an IV. Im just so overwhelmed....

I keep thinking... Will I make it 7 days eating NOTHING? Will I come out of surgery perfectly fine?

Its just an instict but im so excited to see the results!!

Any encouragement or stories for me?

Is your liquid diet "clear" liquids? If not, you can have Soups like Tomato, or strained "cream of". It's not going to be easy, but think of it as the work you have to do to make sure that you don't end up having "open" surgery because your liver is in the way.

Hang in there...and vent all you like here on the boards! We're here for you :D

You can do it! The pre op diet is tough but it feels so good to tell your surgeon that you did not cheat!

I always had trouble getting an IV, until someone finally told me to drink plenty of Water the day before. Since then it has been a whole lot better.

You can do it! Just make sure you keep up on the Protein and it is not so bad.

Focus on the outcome and next week will fly by. You will be in surgery and become an official bandster in no time at all!

I understand your worry. I am on my third day of clear lipuids I get banded the 22. I have a horrible bowel prep the day before. The not eating is getting easier. The bowel prep still looks horrible.

Bowel prep, agh, how fun. I did have to do a bowel prep for my surgery, I noticed it varies from doc to doc.

You get to drink some really salty nasty tasting liquid that cleans out your bowels. It is supposed to kick in after 6 hours, well mine took longer than that and it wasn't until the morning of surgery - oh my! You then have many lovely very liquid BMs that clean everything out!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
