Need a recipe to cure my japanese craving

Recommended Posts

My favorite restaurant is Shogun. They have a "mean" fried rice, vegetables and chicken. I bought a wok and am looking for a recipe I can do at home that is hopefully lower in fat but cures my craving. I also need to find the brown sauce recipe. I don't think it's ginger, but not sure. Any ideas?

Hey Becky! I like Shogun too! I LOVE the Hibachi chicken but I've only had it once since being banded. I like sushi too! Sorry I don't have any recipes to cure your cravings but maybe if you google Healthy Japanese recipes, you can find a good one.

I don't eat a lot of rice since being banded, but I have used Spaghetti Squash as a substitute for Spaghetti Noodles in a baked spaghetti fake out recipe, and it turned out really well. Maybe you could use it as a rice substitute (kinda like lo mein noodles) with a japanese chicken recipe. The squash mixed with the japanese sauce might be pretty tasty. Just a thought...

Here's a link that might help --> Discovering Spaghetti Squash - - FabulousFoods.com

I cut the spaghetti squash in half (lengthwise) and using a spoon, scoop out the seeds and discard. Brush a little EVOO on both halves, sprinkle with a little salt and pepper and put them face down on a cookie sheet and bake at 375 for about an hour. Until very tender. When done, let cool enough to handle and using a fork, scrape the squash out of the shell. It looks like spaghetti noodles. Pretty cool and I love the taste!

If it's on the sweeter side - I love to mix the following ingredients: soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, garlic, splenda, a little rice wine vinegar (if you want the sauce a little thinner or for an asian vinagrette, and a dash of cayenne and sesame oil (go sparingly with both of these though).

oh i over did it w/sushi @lunch today - but it had been a while.

i like to do a stir fry (typically pork) with fresh veggies (pepers/bean sprouts/shitak mushrooms/green onions & fresh ginger) and love to use the kikoman brand of black bean sauce. it's thick *brown* and quite tasty, no need for much of any other flavors. i use my wok, and rather than rice i use saba noodles for the hubby - the sprouts are quite filling like noodles for me.

luluc~ that sounds pretty good. What are saba noodles?

some call it saba, some soba - it's a buckwheat noodle that i get at whole foods market. a little goes a LONG way & if you go to whole foods web page they have LOTS of good recps.

froggi - we're going to make you a cook here shortly,

personally i got a wok for a wedding gift (crate&barrel) - not sure the price at walmart or target, but i'm sure you can get a quality one at either place for under 40$.

might sound gross - but key to wok cooking is to initially seal it w/oil & heat. then never use soap to clean. i KNOW - how that sounds, but clean rag & more oil to keep it "lubricated" (love that word) is all it needs.

i lived in france w/a chef for some impressionable years:eek: and he swore by oil & hot Water only on his wok...after much time together all i wanted was hot oil on "his wok" but that's another time ago..:whatchutalkingabout

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
