I was banded by Dr. Zapata in April. It was a fabulous experience from the time they picked me up at the airport to the time they delivered me back to the airport 3 days later. Alma is fabulous, the doctors are terrific, the hospital is extremely clean and hotel is nice. Everyone treated me very well and I would go back there in a minute. Say hi to everyone for me...Lois from St. Augustine, FL

I had Dr Rodriguez too!! What a great experience! Don't listen to people who put mexico down. It was the best hospital experience of my whole life. Even the language barrier was fine. Just talk slower and use simple words for what you want. I will go back if I need plastic surgery. Good luck

I haven't been yet, but I will be going this fall to Dr. Ortiz. My family was a little worried at first, but after I showed them his website and all the information about his place they are behind me now. I can't wait!!

Hola! I am brand new to this forum, so I don't know the ropes yet. I am scheduled with Dr. Zapata in Mexico on 12/2. I'm thrilled to be finally getting this done. However, I am going to Mexico alone and everyone keeps telling me I'm crazy. Anyone else go there by yourself?

Congrats on your decision to go to Dr. Zapata. He is fabulous as is everyone involved in the process. I went by myself and met my sister there...she had the surgery the same time I did. It was fine to be alone...Things to bring with you...suckers...I brought sugar free and don't know how I would have lived without them. Wear loose clothes and pack very light. When it was time for me to leave, my flight was cancelled and I had to go through atlanta with a layover there for a little while. I took the pain pills as directed...I never needed a wheelchair, I was fine. I even drove myself home from the airport. As long as you take the pain pills you should be ok.

If you would like more info, please feel free to email me privately. I would also be happy to talk with you. It was a wonderful experience for me...considering it was surgery. They took excellent care of me and everything went smoothly. I had my surgery in April and reached my goal weight (50 off) in 5 months. I have no regrets although it has changed my life and how I look at food. best thing I ever did...my sister feels the same way.

Good luck and if you need anything, feel free to contact me. Say hi to alma for me::Lois from Jacksonville.

I am having my procedure done in January here in the states. Why do people go to Mexico for this surgery when it is readily available here? Not judging, just asking. Thanks

Because my stupid health insurance company would rather pay for my diabetes and hbp drugs and complications down the road than pay for the surgery now. The cost is less than half in Mexico than what it is here in the states.

Dr. Zapata is wonderful!! I had my surgery on Aug 15th with him and his team. All went smooth...the only issue i had is I dont' speak spanish and I should have brushed up because the nurses do not speak much english....but Dr. Zapata and the Anesthisologist did...it went great!! I never have regretted this for one minute!!! good luck to you!! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me!!

My health insurance company will not cover the surgery either. May I ask what the cost is in Mexico? Who does your follow-up and fills?

Hi, LoisInstA,

thanks for your response. the closer I get to the 2nd, the more nervous I become, but your post really eased my anxiety.

Where was your incision? What kind of clothes and how many should I take?

Glad to hear your BS are improving. I'm a nurse and take care of several elderly clients who are diabetics. I usually get them after they have failed at managing their diabetes, and have lose vision, legs, etc. Congratulations for taking charge of your life and making healthy choices that will keep your diabetes at bay.

Anne

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
