What is your surgery date? Let's keep a list.

Recommended Posts

Hi. Greetings from Houston. I think I finally have a real surgery date... it is September 19th... tomorrow. I hope whoever is trying to keep the date chart updated can change my date.

I've survived Hurricane Ike, lived without power and Water for 3 days, had my surgery date changed 3 times, and have lived in this hotel for a week and a day... my surgery will be a snap after all of this. Congratulations to all who have recently been banded and good luck to those getting ready to be banded. Keep smiling. Becky

Hey everyone! I was just banded yesterday. :crying: I was worried my date would be pushed back because of Ike but luckily it wasn't. Surgery definitely isn't the most pleasant experience but I'm really not feeling all that bad except for a lot of soreness in my abdominal area (which is normal of course). Everyone who had to be rescheduled just keep your heads up! :wink2:

Becky - good luck tomorrow!

THEY CHANGED MY SURGERY - AGAIN!!!!! :mad2:

So now I am September 23. They waited until TODAY at 3pm to call and tell me. I was very upset. I started to cry

Now I should tell you that this Nurse has been extremely cold and almost rude to me, but when I told her that this is the SECOND time they have rescheduled me and all the problems this is going to cause, she actually had compassion. She forgot that I was originally scheduled for 9-17 and they changed it to the 19th. Since I was emotional, I also told her that I was taking vacation for this, it had been planned, cancelled and rescheduled and now they are making it so that I have to take 4 days off instead of 2 days. I was not a happy camper  but what was I going to do, they have a THREE month waiting list and they are graciously squeezing me in, and I get to be the first surgery. Goody :wink2:

So for the first time I actually put myself before my company. Mind you I have a few people off on Medical, one habitually, and for the past 5 years I have cancelled and rescheduled so many vacation days that they pay me off at the end of the year for 4 to 6 days, I just run out of time to take the days. When we have been short I have worked 10, 11 even 12 hours a day.

This time, this is important to me and I am sorry that this will make the Department short, but I have to do this, for me! I know that is not very Company Orientated, but this is important and I am going to have this done! I have always put work first, never miss a day being sick, I take vacation days around the flow of the office, cancel vacation days and cut my vacation short even changing our plans. But not this time!

I have the Nurse's promise 99.9% that this is the last change.

Sorry this is so long , but I guess I had to write it because tomorrow I guess I am going to tell my Department that I am having surgery. And I was going to keep it a secret, yah right............ Sorry GG for making you change the list, again.

Well at least I am still a

OMG Debbie I would be PISSED! As it is I ended up gettign banded a day late (so yesterday) On the day of my surgery I got a call at 6:30 asking me where I was...my scheduled check in time was 9:30 so I was totally confused. THEY CHANGED THE SCHEDULE BUT NEVER TOLD ME!!! So my surgery was supposed to be at 7:30AM. GRR. So I booked down there and they cancelled me. I ran home grabbed my paperwork and went to the surgeons office where I demanded to speak to the office manager and that I wasnt leaving until I had a new appointment within the next 24hours. I took the week off from work, the fuck up was theirs not mine so I wasnt going to let them reschedule me for 2 months later we were DOING THIS TODAY OR TOMORROW! Amazing what someone will do when you confront them on their screw up in person. I was sceduled for surgery for yesterday at 11:45.

So today I am home, sore but happy. I glad I demanded and didnt back down.

I hope things work out for you. Just dont let them move your date again. Seriously put your foot down, but whatever you do dont mention lawyers, they shut down and your surgery will be put off indefinitely. (My mom works in a doctors office she gave me pointers on how to work them)

I am sorry to hearabout your delay, truly I am, but just wait and see how rewarding it is when its all done. Youll be sore and tired but Ive never felt more brave or satisfied with a decision Ive made in my entire life.

Best of luck Debbie, please know you can always drop me a line to bitch or get some moral support. Youre almost there.

Hi all,

Count me in -- I will be banded on September 24, two days after my b-day -- wanted to have a final unrestricted b-day party.

I was surprised to see that many doctors recommended (or even required?) dieting before the band -- mine did not request anything in particular, except the last 24 hours.

Best wishes to us all :-)

-A.

Hi gg. My date changed from the 12th of September to the 19th. If you update the list, maybe you can change me. No biggie though - I'm still a September Samauri. Thanks for doing the list!!! Becky

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
