Hi. I flew to Denver because my insurance excluded so I needed a reasonable cash price. The band is great. Good luck to you!

I am going to Dr Voellinger in Charlotte on Tuesday for my first consult. Can you tell me what happens after that? Do you have a liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery? I would appreciate any info

First visit with the Doctor, nurse? are you approved already? do you have your procedure date?

lets asume you are ready for your procedure. 2 weks prior you will go in a liquid diet to shrink your liver. It is not bad at all...it just gets old fast.

You'll have headaches for sure. I did!! No caffeine. I purhcased whey from GNC and had one in the AM and one at night. two slim fast in between. liquid yougurts. chicken broth Soup.

Day before procedure just Clear Liquids. Night before procedure nothing at all.

Procedure

after procedure. 2 more weeks of liquid diet (this is where I am right now) and beggining of 3rd through 5th mushie foods before your fisrt adjustments

I do feel great right now. It feels like I dont have anything inside.

Mitch....I will meet with the dr, nurse and financial tomorrow in Charlotte. I do not have a date set so what will this visit entail? I do have insurance that will probably approve the surgery but I am just curious what the dr and nurse will be doing with me tomorrow. Thanks for the info you have already sent. I appreciate all bits of advice, etc.

most likely as it was my case, you will meet with a nurse who will take all your stats, go over your medial history, understand why you like to have it doens, etc....also, they will make you watch a film of all different options and will set you up with a nutritionist and shrink and will recommend a course of action including physical trainers.

Depending on your insurance, they will dictate of how many times and/or months you will be required to prove you need this procedure.

It took me close to 8 months from first visit to my actual surgery. I have eard of others being able to do it in 6 months and as long as 1 year....

Anybody else?

Congratulations. The path is long but you are almost there. Dont get discouraged! if you do derail, dont let it go too long before you get back in track otherwise you have to start al over again!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
