18 month check in

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

Well, it's been 18 months since we all had the lap band surgery, and I thought it might be neat to see how everyone was doing and whether or not they consider their band experience a success.

I am definately thrilled with the results! In the last 18 months I have lost 125 lbs and am down from a size 28 to a size 14. I still have 40 lbs to lose, but I know I can do it. Also, I'll be having a full Tummy Tuck and breast lift in November. The band is the best thing I could have done for myself.

Anyone else?

~Lori

Lori,

You are to be commended for all your successes and hard work. 125 pounds is amazing. Tell us all what worked best for you and what were your challenges?

I'm struggling somewhat with that last 40 pounds. I slacked off for many months and have been on a plateau but I'm working harder now.

I absolutely feel that the band has been successful for me. I know from years of trying to lose weight and knowing that all I've accomplished is to gain 10 pounds each year, that the band has been the best investment in myself that I have ever done. I'm not done losing yet, but if I only lost the 56 pounds that I've lost, that is still pretty wonderful for me. I feel physically stronger, have way more energy, and I feel much more happy...go figure!

Hey Sula,

I'm struggling with that last 30 pounds as well. I think for me the biggest struggle is exercising regularly. I acknowledge exercise is necessary and wil be for the rest of my life. And, I don't even hate it anymore. Unfortunately, I still don't like it. <sigh>

Congratulations on your success as well!

Anyone else from January 07? I want to hear your successes as well!!!

Hi everyone! So I've hit 168 pounds! I took my mom to visit the doctor so she can also get the surgery! I enjoy playing racquetball and golf. If you haven't tried a sport like racquetball i say go for it! It is a very intense sport and you can really maintain your weight or even shed the pounds. Anyone from Houston?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
