2nd fill of 2 cc today... in pain and PB

Recommended Posts

I had my 2nd fill today. I wasnt losing very well so my doctor wanted to give me good restriction. We have an AWFUL time with my fills. It took 9 stabs (I was willing otherwise he wouldnt do it that many times) So he put it in and had me drink Water. I was ok at first and then it ALL came back up. They had to me stay for over an hour. A drank some more and some came back and some didnt. He said I could go if I felt like I was ok with the fill. To be honest I just didnt want stabbed again to take any out and I really want to lose weight. He also said that he will do one more fill and then he will have to move my port because its too hard to get to. I cant afford another surgery and Im sure insurance would deny paying for it.

Since I've gotten home I can't keep anything down. I tried water, gatorade, apple sauce.... it all eventually comes back up. I've even had some really foamy white stuff. The kicker is my kids have had a stomach virus so I dont know if the throwing up is the fill or from the virus.

I live 75 miles from the doctors office and I have a 1 and 2 yr old so I cant just go down there. My husband suggested I try to tough it out for a day or two to see if it loosens up some.

What do you guys think? What do you recommend?

Thanks

Carol

2ccs is a very very agressive fill. Typically it is no more than 1 cc. I would call his office and try and get in tomorrow for an unfill. You should feel the Water dribble down in up to 5 seconds no more. If it comes back up that is a sure tail sign of being too tight. If you wait 1-2 days you will not get your nutrition in. I would call today. Good luck.

More importantly, if you wait 2 days you may find yourself dehydrated or aspirating stomach acid in the middle of the night. Both of these could lead to a trip to the emergency room and some possible disasterous consequences. You say that you have a young one that makes it difficult for you to make the trip to the doctor's office. How hard will it be if mommy is hospitalized.

I have fortunately never had to be stuck more than a couple of times and that only on the first fill. However, I can imagine how difficult this can be to go through. I would suspect that this is a incidence of needing an unfill instead of the virus because it started IN the doctor's office. But I am not a medical professional and neither are you so call. It may be a long drive but it is the lesser of the evils.

Also, if you get a small unfill now you might not need a total unfill later. Yeah, if you wait too long your stoma gets so irritated that they have to remove all the Fluid and wait several weeks for it to subside. Call your doctor.

Thanks everyone. I have realized that its not improving. I cant keep anything down at all. Im totally miserable. I will be calling them. I may even call the on call and see what they say.

Please, please do go get a slight unfill. It may only take as little as .1cc to make things right but you will not only feel better, you will prevent having to take all the Fluid out.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I never EVER want to be that sick again. I spent from 11p-6am in the ER waiting on a room. I knew that by the time I got in a room my lapband surgeon would be starting his day so it worked out. He came in around 7. They gave me zofran (seriously, I had thrown up 60 times... I was throwing up nothing but saliva!) and an IV. He said I was smart to come in because it was only going to get worse. I said yes I soon realized that I couldnt tough this one out. He luckily only had to stick me twice. He pulled it all out and put 4 cc back. I drank a cup of Water VERY SLOWLY and stayed until 9. I did get sick a couple of more times after I got home but I think it was more from irritaton. I pretty much slept from 11a-4p and then 8p-6a. I feel better and Ive been able to drink a cup of coffee.

Here's to hoping 4 cc is my magic number!

And my next fill.... I plan to stay in my dr's office atleast an hour before leaving.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
