recuperation time

Recommended Posts

Considering "our age group" did any of you find the recuperation time different from what they usually say is 1-2 weeks? Any special problems? I'm not looking for excuses just trying to be aware of any special challenges. I know from previous surgeries that they don't always tell you everything in adva

I am 63 year old bandster and I was up and about later the same day, home the next, and haven't looked back. I wish you the same.

My surgery was June 10. I stayed in the hospital overnight (my doctor always requires an overnight stay), was up at 4:30 am and walking and have not needed pain medication at all. Before surgery, I had high BP, major arthritis and mobility issues. Now I am off all meds (except for claritin) and am walking great, with normal (110/70) bp. If you do what your doctor tells you to do, you will be fine, in no time at all!

Nancy:

I glad hear that your healing process went so well. My doctor also requires an overnight stay, which is no problem for me. I have a BMI of 50, with HBP and very painful arthritis in my knees, so I'm happy to see proof that the band will help with those problems.

Anne, I cannot tell you how much better I feel! Yes, the arthritis doesn't really disappear....however, it is soooo much better. I walk (sometimes run) all over school, with very little pain now and wish I had gotten a band years ago. I used to think you had to lose all the weight before any benefit.....wrong! And I still have a LOT to lose, but I don't really care how long it takes. As my doctor says, it will come off exactly the way it is supposed to, as long as you follow the plan carefully. Good luck! You will be so happy in a few short weeks!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
