Breastfeeding with Pre and Post-op diets! Help!

Recommended Posts

im bumping this back up. i found the board by googling for lapband and breastfeeding. im at the beginning of the process, and nursing my 15 month old.

i do have 2 problems though, and yes, i'll discuss these when i go back to the doc  im at the lose weight to shrink your liver phase right now

anyway, my son is allergic to dairy, so we're both dairy free, and i cant to artificial sweeteners (aspartame, splenda, etc) they give me migrains and make me nauseus.

any good options that can accomodate those 2 things?

Armywife, same here. Can't do dairy. I never even thought about that when reading about the shakes and what not.

Lots to think about. Just absorbing all this info right now.

i was just banded a wk ago. my lactation consultant said it was fine to nurse him that night which i did. i didnt take the hydrocodone b/c of nursing but instead took tylenol which was fine. my son is 12 months old and 21 lbs. i lifted him about 5 days after surgery and have been fine (although i have my husband do most of the lifting). good luck!

Hydrocodone, aka Vicodin, is fine to take while nursing, FYI.

im going to answer my own questions since i just had my 2 week pre-op appointment. i dont have to do only Clear liquids pre-op, just a 5 day liquid diet pre-op, the 2 weeks of liquids (starting clear and working up) post op.

anyway, im going to pretty much be making smoothies using soy milk, frozen fruit, hemp protien powder, and im either going to get some veggie powder or add or put veggies into the smoothies too.

i nursed my then 12 month old every 2-3 hrs ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT at that stage in the game. on my liquid phase i drank the bullets (found at GNC but i'm not sure if they have/had whey Protein in them). i also made a lot of just fruit smoothies with fruit juice/ice/fruit (you can sprinkle Protein Powder too).

i just weaned my son a wk ago (at 19 months) and i had my lapband surgery august 18th. i did fine nursing and complying with the new way we have to eat! good luck!!!!

Hi all! I know it's been a few months since anyone has posted in this forum, but I just wanted to say I'm glad I found it! I'm being banded on August 17th and I'm exclusively nursing a 7 month old. I have had a lot of concerns about the pre and post op diets, but I really don't want to put the surgery off. Anyway, this forum has given me a lot of ideas about what to talk about with the nutritionist at my nutrition class coming up this Monday. Thanks! :bored:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
