Hi :scared2:

I have been feverishly researching all of this since I deciding to get the Lap Band. Learning more from all of you each and every day. The more I read, the more I feel this is definitely the best possible thing for me. I do have to ask though, after surgery the band has nothing in it, correct? How long after surgery do they fill your band? Also, how is it decided what size of band the doctor will place?

Thank you all, and Wednesday is the seminar. So, hopefully things will go quickly from there!

I think the band used depends on the doctor. Seems the popular one now is the 10cc band. It has a zero fill at the time of surgery. Average time before the first fill is 4-6 wks post surgery and then every 4 wks after until you reach your restriction point. Seems each doctors fill is different. My first fill in the 10cc band was 6cc, then 4 wks later 2 then 4 wks later 1 - I go in this week for another.. Good luck!!!

Same as said above, think it has a lot to do with the dr. I have a 14cc band, but it was pre-filled with 2cc. My first fill was 6cc and it was too much and I had esophogeal spasms (I think my body freaked out and then I panicked, which made it worse). I now have 5cc in (plus the 2cc that are in at surgery) after 3 fills. I'll be getting another in a few weeks hopefully

Why the different sizes of bands? Is 14cc better than 10cc? I know the fills are slow as needed so that you can get use to them, but what is up with the size? I am confused. Did your Dr tell you ahead of time what size you would be getting?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
