I had my surgery on 6/27 and my first fill is August 11 also - I am hoping to have more restriction than I have now because even though I am not eating like before I feel I am getting in too many calories.

Hi..I was banded on June 2 and had my first fill on Friday. It didn't hurt at all. The only feeling I had was when my Dr. put three ccs in, she withdrew one because I felt a tighness in my chest. I do have more restriction than before but I know I will need a fill again.

I had my surgery June 13th and my first fill July 19th, this past Saturday. I was hungry often, not losing weight and not feeling any restriction at all. Because I was banded in Mexico, local doctors are either unwilling to touch me or want me to wait 3 months, and pay nearly $400 for a fill... eff that! So, I drove back down to the border for my $100 fluroscopic fill. My doctor weighed me then had me stand between two circular arms on the endoscopy machine. He showed me my port, band and stomach on the monitor of the endoscopy machine, then injected my port region with lidocane, which was just a very slight stick. He gave it a few seconds to take effect, then filled the looooooooong needle with saline Fluid from a glass bottle. I felt only a pulling sensation as the needle pierced my skin and popped into my port. It felt cool.. Then he had me drink a sip of barium (pink chalky water) and we watched the monitor as the dark fluid quickly slid down my stomach. The doctor injected some fluid into my band and had me take another sip of fluid. It was still flowing quickly into my stomach, past the band, so he repeated the step two more times until the fluid slowed down when it passed the band. Even though I was filled with 5cc, (9cc band) it was not an aggressive fill. I am 3 days out now and able to eat with no problem, but am going slower than normal and chewing well just in case. I am eating about 70% of what I was eating before the first fill, I'mnot sure if it's the fill working or my mind slowing me down and stopping me from stuffing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
