Tummy Tuck questions

Recommended Posts

More surgery is the last thing on my mind but it's the next thing to come up...

Though, I'm looking to get an inner thigh lift. Has anyone else needed/had this done? It's not as common as a Tummy Tuck and having arms done from what I can gather, Which makes it harder to speak with those who have had it done.

Good to hear everyone is doing so well :)

uneeek,

I think inner thigh lifts don't seem to have the same 'seamless' look of other surgeries like tummy tucks, and was one of the reasons I didn't get one. The results I have seen have been a bit patchy, often looking a bit asymetrical.

I was lucky though that when I got my body lift, it 'pulled' my thighs up a bit, and with further weight loss, they just don't look so bad anymore. The main area of excess skin for me was my inner thigh, and while it's still there a bit, it's not obvious when I'm dressed. I even had someone tell me the other day that I have great pins!

How bad are your thighs?

Apparently they're not as bad as I think they are.. In other words my mother tells me they're fine but I know myself that they're not. I've been toning like crazy all along and I'm starting to think it's just something I'll have to get over. It is mainly the upper, inner thigh.. I'll check out my options when I get to that point, I'm not certain at all about what I'll do. Where most people seem to feel the need to get a Tummy Tuck and their arms done, I'm actually ok with my arms and weirdly lucky with my tummy.. it's just these thighs! Argh! *Jumps back on the orbitrek*

Give it time though. My upper inner thighs are also my problem area and they are improving all the time. They probably look the worst right after you've lost all the weight. But then over the next year, a lot of it bounces back. Mine did.

As long as the skin in that area isn't stretched paper thin, I think you have a decent chance of it settling into something you'll be able to live with long term.

Hey Lellow - Just noticed that you're from Perth (as am I). Where did you get your body lift done and did private health insurance/medicare pay for any of it? I'm going to need a Tummy Tuck (and I'd like my arms done too) at some stage, although will probably wait till after we have kids.

Arms are more commonly done.. You can google results/photos of before and after shots, to me, arms look like they'd be pretty successful. Though i've always had doubts about thighs, especially one way that they do it..

Emma,

My surgeon was Dr Bruce Allbrook - I would recommend him in a second, he is a genius! Google him, he's easy enough to find. He did an amazing job on my body lift.

My entire surgery cost about $26k, but I only paid about $16k out of pocket after Medicare and PHI chipped in. If you're only after a Tummy Tuck, it will probably set you back about $6-8k out of pocket. Dr Allbrook provided me with Medicare item numbers for the reconstructive aspects of my surgery, I was the one who decided to go the 'whole hog' and have a lower body lift, which is why it cost as much as it did. But I don't regret a cent. :)

Hi everyone,

Just bringing up this old thread to see how everyone is going and if anyone ended up having a Tummy Tuck?

I will definitely need a tummy tuck, but have about another 15 kilos to lose first (have already lost 45 kilos). I am just wondering now if I should be changing my health insurance to one that has better coverage for tummy tucks (I am with Australian Unity). Also, should I start seeing my GP about stomach rashes so this is documented (I am have a apron stomach)?

I deally I would like a tummy tuck and breast lift, but it appears hard to find consistent information on what is covered by medicare and health insurance and what the cost should be, can anyone help?

Thanks!!! :)

Hi Tully,

I ended up not getting a Tummy Tuck but a full lower body lift. I have pics in my profile page if you want to have a look. I got it done in April 2009 and since then have had a tattoo done over the scars (just in the last two weeks!).

I'm also have breast augmentation done on the 28th Oct. I chose not to do it at the time of the body lift, but now regret it and have booked myself in to get done. I'm only going back up to a C/D cup where I used to be a DD, but I'm almost almost half the weight I used to be, so a C/D cup will be proportionate and not porn-star like, lol!

My BA will not be covered at all by Medicare or my PHI, but my body lift was covered in part by both as I was given item numbers for the surgery. I ended up paying about half of the total cost of the body lift out-of-pocket (about $16k) and the rest was paid by Medicare and PHI.

I had no history of rashes or anything, but had a massive 'overhang' of skin, and received item numbers simply because they were so 'abnormal' looking. Pics are, again, in my profile, but you may have to add me as a friend for you to see the album (if you haven't already lol!).

Thanks for your response lellow, that is super helpful. You look AMAZING!!! I am just blown away by your pictures.

I couldn't see any tummy pictures, so I have added you as a friend so I can see them, if that is OK.

Good luck with BA this month, that is so exciting! I think I will definitely need a breast lift and maybe BA too. So far I am still a D cup, but I tend to lose a lot off my chest (not my belly unfortunately).

Here is my blog too if you're interested: You Would Be Pretty If...

Tully,

thanks! I've added you as a friend now so feel free to have a look at the pics in my album. Will post more after my BA too - I can't wait! I will be wearing a string bikini this summer lol!

I will definitely have a read of your blog, too! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. :)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
