Was way too tight, had unfill, now eating out of control

Recommended Posts

I had 7 ccs in my 10ccs band and could barely eat a 1/3 c. of food per meal. I lost 25 pounds in 8 weeks. At 5 weeks I tried to get a slight unfill but my port had flipped and had to wait another 3 weeks to get unfilled under fluoroscope. Now, I have NO restriction at 5 ccs. I've gained 4 pounds back in a week because I feel like I have a 'get out jail FREE' card! I've called for another fill but have to wait 5 more weeks before they can fit me in. What should I do? After barely being able to eat for 8 weeks I now feel free and can't control myself. I got this tool because I obviously need it. Should I call my doctor and beg them to get me in earlier? My doctor's office is so busy I feel they can't keep up with all the people that need help...but, if I don't advocate for myself I'm going to balloon back up again. I'll be honest and say I'm petrified of what could happen in the next 5 weeks while I'm waiting for another fill. :confused2:

Nymoosic-I feel for you, as I can honestly say that I share in your distress, literally! I had to have an unfill due to acid reflux, and though it was a partial unfill, it has made a huge difference and I'm struggling to control my appetite as well. I'm increasing my exercise to compensate.

I say do whatever you can to get a portion of your fill back ASAP!! My doctor said that when you reach a certain level, it's a very thin line between "sweet spot" and "overfill". So perhaps, 1cc would put you at the right spot to meet your nutritional needs as well as control your portions.

Good luck!

I would definitely call your doctor's office and see if there is anything they can do. Explain your situation just like you did here.

In the meantime, I have found that when I lost weight very quickly that I tend to gain it back faster. Your body just might be leveling off a bit from the more rapid weight loss. You can certainly try tracking your food intake to try to keep you more in check.

Good luck! I feel for you!

If they can't get you in I would suggest getting on a waiting list or something. Having 2 ccs removed is too much. You should have only gone down .3 or .5. I have been through fill hell so I know how it can be. .3 or .5 makes all the difference. 2 ccs is way too much to take out at once. I would go back up to 6 at the very least then try 6.5 or 6.7. Good luck and keep us posted. Julie from CA.

Their reasoning (and I do agree with it to an extent) was to let the swelling go down. I know that my sweet spot is between 6 and 7 ccs. I know because I've been both places and neither was right. I'll get there eventually.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
