Just Approved!

 I'm Approved! :huh2:

I posted this in the Indroductions section but I thought I would post it again here. I found out earlier this afternoon, after calling my insurance company, that I am approved for surgery. I also called my doctor and I'm scheduled for August 25th.

(I don't know how I ended up in the men's room - but I hear it moves faster than the women's room)

dwrd73 -

I'm also in PA, with 1st Priority HMO (BC BS - part deux)

Low BMI - 36ish

Diabetes type 2 (I guess this is the "Good News")

I see you sped thru the process in record time!

(see - I told you the men's room moves faster)

What's the secret?

I called the 1st priority - they said go ahead

Chose a Dr. mid July

went to the Seminar

Consult is September 4.

So that's a little over 1 month so far.

Psych eval is soon after that - I have his blessing already

Endo said yes - albeit unofficially

Weight management BC BS said - please DO

Had sleep study early this year for other reasons - yay! I have apnea

Blood work is constant

GP is problematic - but this is where the diabetes is a good thing.

What sped your Quest??

Elanye - The only secret i can give is to to stay on top of your appointments and know what your insurance requires. Keep your schedule flexible so you can take the first available appointment and ask for cancellations. I knew I was going to have to speak with my cardiologist due to my high blood pressure so I started seeing him some before my first consult with the surgeon. There was also some months of planning before my first consult with the surgeon. My wife and I started this process in the spring. The first barriatric center we started with had a six month educational wait that didn't start up again until August pushing the surgery back to around the end of February or March. Way too long! My wife found another center with no wait, so that is were we are going. It's farther away from home (about 1 1/2 hours) but to me the drive is better then waiting until next year to have the surgery. Consult was July 2nd, approved July 15th, and surgery will be on August 25th.

The good news Elanye - you are on your way and you already had your sleep study. That alone can take months of waiting. Everyone's journey is different. Your insurance and your surgeon's office & schedule really determine how fast everything goes. Keep us up-to-date.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
