bloating whilst on pre op diet

Recommended Posts

has anyone experienced bloating whilst on pre op diet. as i have got it really badly this morning. i had chicken, rice and veg (small portion) last night and was fine, however i did not manage to sleep well ast night due to external commotions. and went to sleep feeling hungry. I now feel very bloated, even though i had not eaten anything until i had a yoghurt, thought that would settle what ever it is that is causing it, however it has possibly made it worse.

has anyone experienced this? i am worried it is going to affect my pre op checks tomorrow if it does not sort itself out.

Hi Sarah,

I started my liquid diet Saturday, I have not had any problems with bloating. However, I cannot have solid foods like you are so our diets are different. The three Protein shake meals are keeping me ok so far. With sugar free popsicles for Snacks. I am staying busy and out of the house.

thanks for your reply. i am allowed 1000 calories a day, so am glad i am not on the liquid diet as alot of people are. i went to get the past, 2 flights of stairs above the office and when i came back it had virtually gone. so fingers crossed it wont happen again, because it was very uncomfortable. il understand if it does after i have had my op, as it will have some link to it. how long are you on pre-op diet?

Hi Sarah,

My surgery date is July 28th. I started with the initial consult on May 14th and now the date is just around the corner. I cannot wait!! I have lost 12 lbs since that appointment, and hope the liquid diet for the next two weeks removes another 12 from this body. LOL. Good Luck to you!:smile2:

good luck to you also. i had my pre op this mroning and it really sunk in to what i was actually doing and i wasnt just watching from the side lines. i am so glad i am not on the liquid diet, but i would happily follow it if that is what i was required to do.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
