Well I ate it OK last night . . .

Recommended Posts

Last nite hubby and I had take out Chinese. Shrimp fried rice and some chicken. No problem, it was yummy. Today I heated up some leftovers for lunch. Whoa, big problem with the rice! I now know what stuck is and I know what sliming is. Gross!!! I haven't had problems with any foods since being banded 5/5/08 and I've lost over 33 pounds with 2 fills.

Why in the world would the food go down OK one day and not the next? Is this normal? As I was standing over the kitchen sink sliming (I know TMI), my dogs were just looking at me wondering what I was doing. Don't think I'll be trying that again for awhile.

I can never eat reheated foods. I think they dry out or something. My poor husband ends up eating my leftovers...LOL!

I always have problems with chicken ,even the dark meat if its dry like leftovers tend to get.Rice too, so unless rice is in a sauce I stay clear of it.No issues with shrimp even though they say most people do.Just make sure you take small bites, chew it good and my doc says say a sentence between bites.

hi the nutritionist i went to advised me to never eat leftover fried rice there is something in the consistency that makes it very sticky when reheated and it is definitely not a friend 2 the band i hope u fell better soon but she said fluffy rice or shusi is ok for the band but u will experience the same problem again with any type of reheated rice

i eat a can of tuna everyday with a little light mayo and relish, never had a problem until this friday 2 bites into it and i felt like i had a baseball stuck inside me i couldnt take a deep breath i started pbing and sliming for the 1st time, i was banded on 6/12/08 and have not had a fill yet. i have lost 40 lbs so far but hope i wont need a fill for a while. still losing pretty steady i was only stuck for about 10 mins but that was enough.

One thing that my nutritionist mentioned at my pre-op class is that we'll all discover at some point that a food will be absolutely fine on one occasion and the next time its eaten it can be a problem. No explanation other than "don't be surprised if this happens...."

Well, guess I'll be staying away from leftovers. That makes sense about the rice becoming sticky after reheating. Fresh only from now on.

I have a friend and her DH who are both banded, and when I was prepping to be banded he told me the band is female. I looked at him with a ???? look, and he said it is as fickle as fickle gets!!! Actually worse than any woman he had ever met!!!

He went on to tell of similar incidents where one day something is fine, the next not at all! Or even from lunch to dinner.....

It is true, even with mine, sometimes things go easy, sometimes it is not gonna happen!!!

But......would I trade knowing I could eat something for the 100+ pounds back??? Not a chance!!!

Sounds like you are pretty normal to me!!!

Thanks for this - I was just thinking today about how I can eat more at some meals than at others and when I can eat more I get worried something is wrong with my band - the main thing I have noticed after my surgery 14 days ago is that I get full so much faster which is great - I had Cream of Wheat for lunch and was sliming really bad but then sometimes I can eat it and don't have that problem - it may be the little bit of milk I put in it to thin it out more - maybe dairy is the culprit but it is pretty gross when it happens. Thanks for any more info you can give me.

Yep, guess it's to be expected. i'm just surprised it too so long to happen for the 1st time. 6:30 pm, just had a turkey brat and had absolutely no problem.

Baycity. I had some restriction for a few days only after 1st fill. A little more after the 2nd fill. But at times I can still eat a whole sandwich. Whick I think is too much. I'm due for another fill in about 3 weeks. With each fill the restriction is more and lasts longer. From what I've read it's not unusual to require several fills before you get to your "sweet spot". I am still averaging about 2 pounds a week loss, so I guess I should be pleased. If I got off my butt EVERY day and exercised it may be quicker. Right now I just do Water aerobics in the pool about 2 x a week.

Good luck!

This is a common problem for me as well, but I think it has more to do with the time of day than with the food itself. I have a hard time eating some things until about 2 p.m. I don't know why, but I guess my band is tighter during that time. I can pretty much eat whatever I want for dinner though. I had meatloaf the other night and it was delicious and went down just fine. I tried to eat it again for lunch the next day. It was still very moist and I added ketchup for good measure, but no luck. Didn't work at all. So, it's just something I've learned to live with and to expect and plan for.

Why would the band be tighter some times than other times - I have not had a fill yet but I hear so many different things from people and it gets confusing to me - Thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
