Howdy form Texas...although I am new to this board, I am not new to lapband. Not that I am extremely proficient but I had by surgery in Dec. of 2006. I had my first fill the following Feb. In June some of the 1.4 fill was removed as I couldn't keep anything down. Then I had a bout with acid reflux and did all the fun tests before having the rest of the fill removed this April. Today I had my"2nd" fill....hopefully I have learned from my past mistakes and will not make them again.

Dr. Felix Spiegel

12/1/2006

first fill 2/14/07

first unfill 7/09/07

second unfill 4/30/08

211/160/135

well depending on how you look at it I went from a size 20 to a size 4 in about 17 months kind of like those miracle diets...ate what I wanted and didn't have to exercise. Sounds too good to be true...right? Well it was...I couldn't keep anything down most of the time.

Would I do it again? Probably so, but with a lot more knowledge. Would I use the same Dr. probably not(his office staff is the pits. He's okay but face it...who do you deal with the most?) From what I am reading though...I do wonder if sleeve isn't the way to go..that wasn't an option when I had my surgery. I guess the best thing I do is read the boards now. You know you aren't alone when dealing with some of these things. If you have any specific questions just ask I will be happy to answer them if I can.

Hey I'm from Houston, Texas also. I'm 56 years old.

I haven't had the surgery yet. Several more things I still need to do. To be honest I have days when all I want is the band then days when I think of not getting to have another diet dr pepper the REST OF MY LIFE and I start changing my mind. I know not having diet dp for the rest of my life is a small sacrifice for losing weigt but for some reason I can't get past it. I've been wanting to hear from people that have had the surgery a few years. Thanks for you input. I'm going to check into the sleeve.

Hi all -

I'm in Sugar Land ...

I had lap band surgery in November 2007 and don't regret it, though life's changed as far as eating goes.

I'm one that goes on "plateaus" for weeks at a time ... certainly not losing 1-2# a week! But, all-in-all, I'm happy I had it done and it's changed my life for the better....

Best wishes!

I've only beend banded 5 1/2 weeks but I don't miss sodas. I used to drink 3 -4 diet cokes a day but haven't even had a sip of soda since being banded and don't even miss it at all. The longer you go without something, the less you miss it right? For me, I think the band has pyschological effects in addition to the physical restrictions.

I was banded in May 2007 and have lost all my weight and then some. I used Dr. Hadar Spivak. He is excellent, and unlike Dr. Spiegel's office staff feedback I consistently hear about, Spivak's staff is GREAT. Never had problem one with the office, scheduling, getting in....anything. And he is one of the most experienced lap band doctors around.:crying:

I back Kacee's endorsement of Dr. Spivak. :)

Congrats Kacee on reaching your goal.

Does anyone here know anything about Dr. Hollis? I've just started the process of getting approved for the lap band. My insurance is suppose to cover it, but I'm still waiting to hear. Before I make a committment, I would like to hear from someone that has had him for their surgery.

hi, i am from dallas and was banded in feb, i have lost 50 pounds, have not excercised as it is hard with a bad hip. I have not had a soda since surgery, not really, i took a sip of my daughters one day when we were out shopping because i was out of Water and very thirsty, it was so nasty tasting..i dont miss it at all, you wont either, but you can have one if you want, but i promise, it wont taste the same. Good luck to all and i am working on another 50 before the holidays hit.

Dee

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
