Do i have a flipped port?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on June 27th and i feel fine (besides wishing i had more restriction). My one worry is my port incision, it is swollen with a knot behind it. It hurts and if i turn a certain way you can kinda see it protruding! I am a bad hypocondriac (or how ever you spell it) So of course i think i have a flipped port. My doc appt is not for about a week and noone around me knows anything about the band soo can someone please reassure me or tell me if you have had this too.

Hi Brittney,

No I wouldn't worry about a flipped port. It is quite normal to have a lumpy feeling and soreness behind the port site at first. I had surgery in Dec. '07 and my port till protrudes a little and is sometimes uncomfortable. I think it is just a price we pay for having the band. Your band is still very new, so give it time to heal inside. You'll be just fine.

i don't think it is flipped. I was banded in Feb and i still fill my port really really good. I an lean against the kitchen counter and it is very noticeable. it feels really weird. i hear that is normal and that it will take a while. so i am playing the waiting game too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
