Need Help getting back on track

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I am six weeks post - op and was doing great until this week when I discovered cheez-its! Once I had a few, i just kept going back for more and I am having a hard time stopping. Does anyone have any quick fixes to get me to not eat cheez-its?

Eil...I dont have much experience, and this is my first week post op.....but I do have a suggestion....Hows about a piece of sharp cheddar cheese....maybe a couple squares of cheese? ? I dunno...Maybe it will give the same flavor....and its a protein....so it will keep you longer than a cracker... I hope this is helpful

Good advice, I discovered cinnamin Life Cereal. I can't quit grabbing!! Help!

Know how I used to be jealous of those of you who feel "wide open" after banding? I'm no longer jealous. I think I've got it. I have been opposed to a fill from the get-go, but after my cinnamin Life Cereal day, I'm wonderin...

Looking for advice, too!

Cheez-it's and Cinnamon life cereal are those foods that the band does not restrict no matter how much fill you have...all the food that is "bad for us goes right through the band. You will find further out Cookies go down easy, cheetos go down easy tortilla chips go down easy all the junk food goes down easy, this is why they tell you to eat Protein first. Try it and see the difference in a bite of chiken chewed real good versus a handful of cheez its and you will know just what I mean..I can still eat both of those things even having 3 fills but give me a bite of bread , rice or Pasta and I'm in misery.

Dang, I knew it when I did it. I thought perhaps I might get a full feeling (?) that would stick around. I've been on this board long enough I should know better! Crud. I really liked that Life cereal. Better switch to Jack's Holy Shredded Wheat. It's more effective on the Fiber end of things anyway. I wanted to wait till 6 weeks but the snackies are setting in...chew, chew, chew.

Thanks Michelle!

Thank you to all who answered my question. Jack was the funny one - Step away from those Cheez-its now! I could hear a funny tone in that response and I started to laugh! I realize that the best way is no cheez-its at all, but I have been on a binge since my daughter offered me just a few - and you all know the rest. I will go to support group this monday night and confess my cheating. So far today, I have not had one bad thing and I plan on turning over a new leaf. It is all willpower - even with the band!

Thanks again,

Eileen

No Life cereal for me today, either. Thanks for the kick in the butt everyone.

Lessons learned:

Hard protiens are better

Don't eat around the band

Watch for sugars in the snack foods...it only makes it worse

Don't even START eating junk

Don't fool yourself that it's Fiber

There is NO nutritional need for Cheez-Its OR Life cereal

It's all willpower, even with the band. And I can do this.

Hey Jack, who wrote the book you mentioned? I'd like to check it out on Amazon, if you don't mind. I'm anxoius to find out if you like it...thanks

Okay Eileen, you go girl!!! Thanks for a great thread!

Hey eileen.. I am so with you. I found just about anything I can eat, the sugar free fat free Jello and fat free cool whip is my death. I can eat it and eat it and then add up the calories and whoa I feel guilty. I have decided not to buy it. Along with the carb solutions Peanut Butter, it is also bad for me, I eat too much, so even stuff that is supposably good for me just isn't and it sucks. Everyone is right, all the bad stuff goes down easily! People think that because we had the surgery this is easy, well it isn't, it sucks and is very hard! I also have ot get back on track, been slipping really bad. Do you still have my #? Give me a call, hope to see you tomarrow at group. Wendy

I too have a problem overeating certain things when I am around them. Number one is Pasta. The doctors should have never told me I can eat canned ravioli because it is soft and easy to pass through. I could not stopp eating it when it was time for me to eat soft foods. I finally had to stop buying it and opt for food that did not have a huge affect on my sugar levels. I try my best to eat a sugar-free Jello and light whipp cream and I also have a obbsesion for ice pops they are only 35 calories and that helps me stop craving a lot of sweets.

Wendy

Sorry, i have no idea what i did with your phone #, but i'll have to get it again tomorrow at support group. We missed you last time. I think it's back at Mauri's office this time. Maybe we should give her a call just to make sure. It really is hard trying to keep on target, but they did tell us that before the surgery. I notice that one of the postings says that they can have canned ravioli - I thought that we were not supposed to have any Pasta?

I curse the day "Cool Ranch & Chedder" was ever invented. I haven't really strayed in the 5+ months I've been banded, but this weekend was not too good. I brought them into the house for my DH & son, but NEVER AGAIN. I told my DH I'm getting him a big lock-box, and I'm NOT kidding! I'm so mad at myself right now, cause I know better.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
