Well here is a little about me. I have PCOS and therefore was infertile. Didn't have a period for 5 years and tried to have a baby and finally got pg and had baby boy 5/3/2007 due to IVF. Well I was banded on 1/29/08 and have lost 33lbs since. I got my period for the first time in February than it came again in March, and then April and may. Well I just found out yesturday I am 5.5 weeks pregnant. I am excited and scared. Right after I had my first baby last summer, I got pg like 6 weeks after he was born and miscarried. Well now I been really sick and lightheaded and super hungry. I am scared to tell my dr who does my fills and what not as they don't advise you to get pg will you been banded for a year. Will they have to take the Fluid out? Should I just wait to tell them after my 1st Trimester to see if I have a good stong pregnancy?

Hi Katie,

First I want to say CONGRATULATIONS! Second, if you're getting sick, like throwing up, then yes I would tell them. They might have to unfill you, but it's better than risking a slip. You can start again after your pregnancy. Right now, you have to focus on that first, and the last thing you want is a lap band complication while you are pregnant. Good luck on whatever you decide.

congratulations! that is wonderful. i found that my fat was a great birth control for so long... lose the fat, lose the protection...

i suggest maybe a slight unfill as well. i had 8 ccs and reduced mine to 4 because my morning (ha - all day) sickness is a problem for me. plus, you'll need to eat enough to provide adequate nutrition for the baby.

if you normally do fills under flouro (x-ray), you may want to have them do it without this time.

best of luck to you!

Congrats to you! And, yes, definitely tell your docs what is going on. I got a bit of an unfill as well early on -- no biggie. I know it's a big head-game being so freshly banded, but like the others said, you can pick back up after baby comes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
