Anyone using liquid fiber?

Recommended Posts

I got my fifth fill on Friday and have great restriction (I'm getting close to that spot!), and I have been using Metamucil daily for regularity.

However, yesterday my daily dose became stuck! Now I see why some of you say that your surgeons recommend that you don't use it--of course, it was wretched! :crying:

Today I read here that some of you put your teaspoon dose in a large amount of Water, followed by more water; and that's just what I did. But I'm unsure whether it will really work as well (and I dread the outcome if it doesn't!)

I have been reading about "liquid fiber", (which is used in tubal feeding patients also). It's relatively expensive, but may be worth the $ if it works well.

Anyone of you have any experience with this?

I use a product called FiberStat. It's liquid and 2 tablespoons contain 15mg of Fiber. I got it from CVS and it's available on-line. A container with 30 doses costs about 22.00 (I am not sure how that compares to metamucil). I needed a concentrated form of fiber right after surgery and I used this with success. Currently I take a dose any day I do not get at least 20gms of fiber in my diet. I would recommend this.

Christine, that's the EXACT product I was researching!~ Do you know if you can use it for daily maintenance?

I've never counted fiber grams before and with counting Proteins and carbs, I'd rather just do the daily dose...

I use Benefiber ..It dissolves in anything and doesn't get thick at all.

Has no taste and you can even sprinkle it on your food if you like .

I would check with your surgeon but I was told I could use it for maintenance. I only gave you the concentration so you could compare it to what you are taking now. You may be taking less than 15gms of fiber with the metamucil and not need the full 2 tablespoon dose. I never kept track of fiber either but it happens automatically on www.thedailyplate.com where i keep track of my intake and I was able to see how much fiber I need to stay comfortable.

Thanks you guys! I'm going to research it a little more because you're right, Christine, I'm only getting 5 grams of fiber with my Metamucil now, so I could cut my dosage of liquid fiber way down, less expense.

AZChick, now I remember that many people have said Benefiber was the best to use so when I go to Rite Aid today, I'm going to look at both options. (The liquid does scare me a little, because it must be pretty strong).

Anyone want to buy a large container of Metamucil???:)

I recently found a drink mix put out by Kellogg's All Bran that has 10gm of fiber and 20cal. per serving. I found it right alongside the other fiber supplements in my local drugstore and supermarket.

It comes in iced tea and pink lemonade. Both are quite tasty - just like Crystal Lite. You get 8 servings per box for a little under $4.00. It's quite flavorful, so you can easily stretch the powdered mix to get 12 - 16 servings per box to economize.

I have been drinking it for a couple weeks. I really like it! I'm pretty sure its the same type of fiber as Benefiber. There's no clumping or grittiness. You do need to shake it good, but it mixes even better than Crystal Lite.

I've noticed a small difference in my BM frequency. (Always a good thing.) And, no cramping like psyllium can produce. It's good stuff.

I use benefiber 2tsp. 3x daily... you can mix it with anything it doesnt get thick... and as long as you can take down liquids you should be able to take in the benefiber... I try to get fiber in throught my daily diet as well but that is quite difficult to do, because you think fiber its mostly veggies and i cant do that much veggies... because of my ibs if i dont get enought fiber in a day i wont go.. it really does suck:tt2:

but try the benefiber.. i like to mix it with some tea Water juice, or even yogurt or pudding (only treat myself to to the pudding when im desperately craving chocolate... so i rationalize it with at least im getting some fiber...)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
