Well, I have officially been scheduled for my initial visit with my surgeon for July 3rd. I have ALL my paper work in that he needs. :blushing: Now, my question is...what do I expect at this visit? Is there anyone new enough at this to remember how their appt went and what kind of stuff you discussed? Thanks, Stephanie

Hi gon,

i went for my first visit a week ago and my surgeon talked about the surgery and what it entailed. Asked about the different diets i had tried. Then scheduled a zillion tests i have to have done before surgery can be scheduled. Good luck

Stephanie, have you been to a seminar yet? They are really good and answer alot questions you don't even think about. My first appointment was really fast, kind of a meet and great to learn about the surgery and find out what the doctor needed me to do so I could get it done. I am almost there, next week I should find out if the surgery is approved and get my date. I hope:biggrin2:

Ya, I've done everything and turned everything in that they need. I'm done on my end when it comes to that. I think I'm basically gonna find out what HE wants from me and maybe he'll tell me a few things I don't know. I'm just nervous, I mean, what if he schedules me for testing, puts me on the liver diet and throws a surgery date at me?! That's what I'm worried about. No more surrealness after that. It will be balls to the wall and that excites me and terrifies me at the same time.:thumbs_up:

Oh ya, and Hottie, congratulations! :)

This whole thing has been sureal for me too. It still is and probably will be until its over. I just keep taking it one step at a time and then when I look back I am kinda like, Wow, I can't believe I have come this far. Its good, I am really excited. The start of a thinner life, wearing a bathing suit and not worrying about it

I just had my initial consult on Wed and it wasnt so bad at all. I met with the surgeon, he weighed me, we talked about the lapband, I am trying to go through my insurance, so we talked about what comorbidities I have, he did a quick little physical, pressed on my stomach, etc and that was it! Oh, he did schedule just 2 tests, an endoscope to make sure there is no damage to my stomach, and a scan on my gallbladder. After that I met with the nutritionist who talked about the pre-op diet (all Clear Liquids for a week!!) and what I should be doing now to prepare. Then I met with the insurance specialist and got all the paperwork going for that. Pretty easy, took a couple of hours, but all in all pretty painless. Now, I have to meet with the Psych for the eval and then get those 2 tests done, all my pre-op bloodwork and a pre op physical and then all should be done on my end. My only advise is to be really prepared with all your paperwork done and all of your medical records. I know, it is scary! And exciting at the same time. Good Luck!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
