First fill on Tuesday, now Im having a lot of pain

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody, I had my first fill on Tuesday and ever since I have been in a lot of pain. It hurts to swallow anything, even Water. I am having pain in my chest and my throut. Has anyone else had this after a fill? I have 5cc in a 10cc band. I have called my surgion and am just waiting to hear back from him.

Hello! I haven't had my band yet, but from everything I've read it sounds like your band is possibly too tight (too much fill). I'm sure you're doctor will be able to tell you (as will some of the others on here that have already had their bands) - so you made the best choice to call your doctors so quickly. Good luck and hope you feel better!

5cc's in a 10cc band is a lot for a first fill. My first fill was 3cc's in a 14cc band. You are too tight. I've been there and it's no fun. You should have a little bit removed and you'll be lot more comfortable.

You are definitely too tight. I went for my first fill and got 3ccs. They have you sit for a while and drink some Water, and all I did was burp a little so they let me go. By later that evening even water felt like it was getting stuck. I called the doctor the next day, met him at the hospital and he took out 1.5 ccs. I could feel the pressure releasing as he pulled out the Fluid. I worked with that for a couple weeks until my followup appt. then told him I could get liquids down ok and soft foods, but the denser stuff I was still having a hard time with, so they took out another .5cc. I am due back in July and with my experience I would want to do fills conservatively, maybe 1 or at most 2ccs. I have a history of reflux so maybe that makes me more sensitive, but I know the feeling you describe, and it isn't fun. But that is also the plus about the band. If it doesn't feel right you can have it adjusted. Try that with anything else!

Hi,

Had my first fill today. Tomorrow will make 8 weeks. I have leveled out at 25 pounds, till now. I'm not hurting at all. Buy I am hungry, do I just keep sipping fluids. I will go to full liguids tomorrow, but it's up to me, how I feel up to eating. Needle stick went fine. In and out in 30 seconds. I had 3cc's today.

I had an aggressive fill today. My chest and throat hurt. I am only taking sips of hot or luke warm Water. My experience is that this will loosen in a few days. if it stays like this, i will get a small unfill. as I am quite uncomfortable. I know everything is irritated and swollen which is why I am waiting. Hope things settle down with you....and with me.

Thank you everyone for your advise. I wasnt able to get a hold of my doc, so I have just waited it out. Most of the pain has gone away, but I am not able to get much of anything in, including Water, which caused me to have a horrible head ache, I think I will call the doc again today and see about having a little taken out, but I am worried, I have lost 6lbs, which I know isnt healthy, but I dont want to have some taken out and then not lose at all. Oh well, I know I cant go on like this, I feel terrible.

Hi. I ended up calling the emergency number for my doctor because I felt so sick. Does your doctor have an emergency nnumber or a back up person? I was filled on Friday, lost 6 pounds by Sunday from dehydration, and then got an unfill. I feel so much better now. If you can't drink, get to a doctor. Hope all goes well.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
