Hey I am a new band person. I have not had a fill but will next week. My question is this: I live 5 hrs from the Doctor. How long does it take after a fill to know if the restriction is too much?

I am so worried about getting a fill, going home and not being able to swallow.

Any info would be appreciated.

I had my appt today for my post op and I asked the same question. My doctor watches it on on the xray while he is doing the fill and when it gets to the point he thinks is good, has me drink something to see how it filters through. Hope that helps

My doctor always has us drink some Water before we leave the office and make sure it goes down well. Even if they don't suggest it, drink some Water to make sure everything is working before you leave. Gas is too expensive to have to drive right back.

Good luck.

Everyone is different, each doc does it different. None of my fills have been under x-ray. If your fills are fairly small at a time you should be just fine. Don't get too agressive all at once. And remember after you have had a few fills, small fills will be all you can tolorate because they will make such a big difference in restriction.

You don't always know within a few hours. My last fill, fill #3 did not kick in until 2 weeks after. I was all set to go for another fill and 3 days before I was going I noticed more restriction than had been in the first 2 weeks. It seemed strange to me for it to take that long to it to kick in but it happened. I have to drive 1 1/2 hours so I can relate to what you are saying.

Hi Everyone!

My first fill will be July 3rd. Right now I can eat and drink whatever I want. Having a little problem with hunger:cool2:. Sometimes I feel like my band isn't there. How many CC's should I get the first time?

I had my first fill on Tuesday. He put in 1cc and had me drink some Water. If you have ever had anything "stuck" that is what it felt like. He removed about a 1/2cc I drank more water and if felt much better. He said that I am a "slow goer". I am eating like when I first got banded, whew, what a relief! Good luck all!!

I had my first fill two days ago and feel no restriction whatsoever? The nurse told me it could take two weeks to feel anything?

I had my first fill today and he put in 2cc's. My appointment was at noon and i was on my way by 12:50. He numbed the area with lidocaine and noted the location of the port with a marker. He primed the port by removing as much air from the band and tube as possible and then injected the saline. He had me drink Water before he removed the needle and then we talked for about 30 minutes in his office until he was sure that I felt ok. He told me to go home and keep to yogurt with Protein Powder, then try cottage cheese later on in the day try some tuna or chicken salad. I'm feeling good now...a bit tight but ok.

I had my first fill yesterday. I had 2ccs in my band which the Dr. said alreay had 3ccs in it from the surgery (sounds like a lot to me...) I did liquids yesterday, like he said... and mushies today. I didn't feel well eating cottage cheese, so I tried some yogurt... I could only get 3ozs in. I feel so full I could pop. I hope this is just swelling. I was doing good before the fill, but just kept getting hungry after 2 hours or so. Is this normal after a fill?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
