  1. 1. Calorie Intake Post Surgery but Before 1st Fill

Recommended Posts

I was banded on June 9 and have had my first fill already. I am on mushies too and I typically will eat 1/4 cup oatmeal for Breakfast, 1/4 cup protien shake made w/soy milk, 1/4 cup Soup, 1/4 cup protien shake made w/soy milk, 1/4 cup mashed potatoes. I also substitute a gogurt or danimals for one of the 1/4 cup foods and I mostly drink iced tea with no sugar so I don't think I am anywhere near 1000 calories either. I am probably closer to 600-800 calories a day. I was surprised that my paperwork said only 200-300 calories during this phase but I am losing weight and I feel good so I will continue with the foods I am currently eating.

I was banded on 6-18 as well. It was a good day for surgery! I am still in the liquid phase. Doc Said 2 weeks. I figure I am about 400 - 600 calories. I am really ready to get to phase two, but that will probably have to wait till I see my surgeon this Thursday. Maybe my nutritionist (tomorrow am) will give me a go ahead. lost 6 or 7 pounds the first week, but have stayed constant since then. I assume that I am not eating enough (starvation mode?) I guess time will tell. I think we need a sub-group for 6 - 18 ers

I agree Fins. There does seem to be a lot of us all banded on the same day.

I was banded on 6/9 and due for my first fill on 7/21 but I'll be in Maui (poor, poor me! lol) so I have to wait until 8/4 for my first fill..that's at 8 weeks! I couldn't talk him into doing it at 5 weeks, before I left!

It was so much easier being on the pre op meal plan! lol

I was banded 5/27/08.... lost 10 pounds prior to diet on pre-op... and 20 pounds since surgery. I am still losing 1-2 pounds per week, sometimes more.... for the first two weeks after surgery, I didn't and couldn't eat too much.... but now after all the swelling is down, I am definately eating more... not nearly as much as I used to prior to banding, but more than I was.... I would say 1200-1800 calories per day with zero restriction.. I can eat anything I want, although I make smart choices and stay away from things that are not beneficial for me.... 60-70 grams of Protein a day, and 35-40 grams of Fiber a day are a must! I know in a few weeks I will be getting a fill... don't know how much more restriction I will have, but will start really focussing on Portion Control more... I really figure as long as I am losing and eating healthy things.... then I am ok and don't have to watch calories as closely as I will soon. Hope that helps. If you are super morbidly obese, over 300 pounds I would say you will need more calories at first or your body will think it is starving and then you won't lose or might regain.... as you lose, you can eat less calories... but if you don't eat 1000-1200 a day, you may not lose as fast or as much as you like because of the starvation issue..... you have to get a minimum amount of calories.... the less is not the better.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
