Port location. Can we choose?

Recommended Posts

After reading some of the feedback, I noticed folks have ports in different parts of their body. Do the doctors let you pick where you want it and if so what area do you think would be the best for the port? I assume you wouldn't want it to be in a spot that would get rubbed by a waist band or under wire bra. Any good advice?:rolleyes2: Maybe I'll have it put on my husband!!

these days waist bands are at all different levels. Plus sizes have a true waist band, but other clothes have a drop waist. Some are worn at the hip. It really makes it difficult to decide. My comfort level just depends on were the waist band happens to fall on a particular garment. My best friend had hers put up near her sternum and she hates it because her bra and underwires rub on it constantly. Bras aren't worn loose, so she doesn't like it. She's jealous of mine near my belly button, but certain pants squeeze on mine some days. It just depends.

I would like mine in my purse.. but the Great Dr put it on the left side of my stomach ... So far so good

Hehehe......I have my on my left side as well. I saw somewhere on the news that they are making bands that are without port. The band is opened and tightened electronically with some type of remote.....It is still experimental--that would be great, wouldn't it? No more needles!!!

I saw the electronic one as well...or was it magnetic? Either way it was cool.

I didn't have an option of where my port was placed. It's on my left side.

Interesting: My port is on my right side just under my waist line. I was banded on June 6th and so far I don't even know it's there. Maybe it depends on the handedness of the doctor as to which side the port ends up on.

my doctor said most doctors have "their own" spot where they place the ports. mine is over to the right of my belly button but up about 2" i don't think the placement really bothers anyone too much... not that i've read anyway.

i'm just worried that when i lose my weight you'll be able to see my port but my doc promised me i wouldn't be able to and that his wife has the same bad as me with the port in the same place and she is at my goal weight and it isn't noticeable.

It's a good thread. My port is on left side (waist area). I didnot know if I have the option to suggest the location preference to my doc. I was operated on June 2nd. My problem is when I bend to pick something. I feel that my body is bending at the exact spot where my port is. I am very careful but not sure if it would continue giving me discomfort on bending post my healing period.

Can one get the location of the port changed? If yes, it might mean opening me again to do the same. Well in that case - it is a scary thought.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
