Do I really need a fill?

Recommended Posts

This week will be 4 weeks since I had my surgery. At my 2 week post op visit, the doctor told me to go ahead and make my first fill appointment, which would be at 6 weeks post op. Since the day of my surgery, I have lost 16 pounds. I am also only able to eat 4-5 ounces of food at a time, which my doctor told me was acceptable. So my question, do I really need a fill? I feel like I am in a good place and am thinking a fill would mess that up.

One more thing and don't shoot me for asking. I have noticed that I am really thirsty at night. Sometimes I have a hard time waiting my 30 minutes after dinner to drink anything. This doesn't seem to bother me except make me fill fuller. Is this necessarily a bad thing? There have also been times that I have had sips with lunch. Again, this has only made me feel full.

I think the drinking with meals has 2 different reasons... 1 it could wash the food through and you could eat more sooner and 2 They want you to fill up on solid protein/food rather than liquid.< /p>

Make sure you are staying hydrated during the day by drinking lots of Water between your meals.

I to am getting my first fill 6 weeks out and have lost 14 pounds since my surgery, but I can tell that I can eat a little bit more now so in 2 weeks who knows how much I will be able to eat. I just have to trust my Doctor to do what is best for me and so far he hasn't let me down.Good luck!!

Sounds like you might not need a fill - If you are in a good place then don't mess with it.. There was a lady in my Doc's office who went 6 months before she got her 1st fill. Not everyone needs a fill right away,

You could be thristy at night due to the salt in your evening meal. I only have to wait 1/2 hr after eating to drink - so that's not usually too hard.

If I dont drink enough during the day I am incredibly thirsty at night.

No one says you have to get a fill at this stage. Some people never get a fill and do great. However, it may not hurt to have an appointment on the calendar if it takes a while to get in to see your doctor.

If you keep losing well and are satisfied during your meals without a lot of hunger in between, then the band is working and there is no reason to get a fill. Some people get really hungry after the first 3-4 weeks and definitely need a fill. Sometimes the transition from not hungry to very hungry every day moves quickly. Just keep your options open and go by how you feel.

If you feel like you are doing good without a fill then dont get one. From what I read you dont sound like you would need one - your weight loss is great and you are keeping your portions small. I am a little over 7 months out and still have not had a fill so it is possible to do lose without one.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
