Ok guys... I was banded about 2 years ago exactly and am experiencing a first time problem. My chest area has been very sore for the past couple of days and whenever I eat it is 10 times worse. I'm not eating too much and I just feel completely bloated! I called my surgeons office and they told me to go on a liquid diet for 48 hrs to see if that would help. They apparently think there is food stuck in my band. I have never experienced this before and am wondering if this is a correct diagnosis. I am then supposed to go in if it does not clear. I know my body and I am not sure that this is the problem. Please let me know of any feedback/suggestions. All will be greatly appreciated!!

Ouch -- that doesn't sound good. Can you make an appt for a barium swallow w/fluoro to have them check what is really going on?

Is it possible that you are having reflux and are sore from it? I know my esophagus and band area were really sore last week before I got my unfill.

I agree, I would request a flouro as well. Or, at the very least an unfill. That way, if you do have food stuck, the unfill should help it pass. Then, you should probably do liquids for a few days and ease yourself back up to restriction after that.

Do you still have your gall bladder? I am only a year out, but was experiencing some similar problems and it was my gall bladder. I got it out, no more problems.

I agree-gallbladder or worse yet band slippage - I have had both and they are not pretty. Banded 2 years ago August and struggling now.

Be well.

Ooh, good point -- I didn't even think of gallbladder. I had mine out 11 years ago, but I still remember how much it hurt, like someone had an Iron band around my ribcage and was squeezing. I thought I was having a heart attack.

They can do ultrasound to see if there are gallstones or sludge in there. That's something you want to call your primary care doc for, if you think your pain is not band-related.

Let us know how things turn out!

Yep I say gall bladder too. extreme chest pains especially after you eat.

Think about it, the gall bladder filters fat and when it gets overtaxed the fat hardens and forms stones. We are all losing weight and flushing the fat out. We are over working our gall bladders.

Good luck have your doctor check for both the band slippage and gall bladder, a simple ultrasound will tell about the gallbladder.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
