I was banded May 13th and yesterday my shoulder was killing me like I had my surgery the day before. My doctor did warn me it would take up to a few months for it to go away. Gas-x was a big help for me so is walking. Hang in there!!!!!!!

my worst pain after was back pain from how i was positioned for my surgery ... i had some hyperextension of my lower back. That lasted for weeks.

It all comes right though.

For me gas x and walking helped a little. When it was really bad I layed on my side and pulled my knees up as close as possible to my body and hopefully with a little time quite a bit of that gas would escape. I made sure I stayed on top of my walking also as that dissipates the gas supposedly. For the 1st 3 or 4 days I made sure to get up every 1 to 2 hours and walk a MINIMUM of 200 steps.

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op and have ZERO gas pain and havent since the 1st week so it worked for me.

The pain goes away.. Heck, I belched non stop.. and I mean BIG TIME very longggg belches for 5-6 days straight and that helped me to get all that gas out, but some people can't belch so it takes longer. But, it does go away. In a few months all this stuff will be a thing of the past...

I am only 3 days out and I still has some gas pain but I take the Gas X Strips and Maalox. Together, these really helped me. Walking helps as well. Hope you feel better soon.

Hey Girl,

I am 6 days out also and the gas is killing me also and I've been active and drinking Water and all, I think it's just part of the anesthesia or the lack of any REAL food!! Are you are famished as I am? Today seems a bit better as far as the severe hunger goes, but I could still eat the stuffin out of a pillow!!

Here's to you ,,,,toots!!! LOL

I underestimated the gas pain. It really helps to hear others have the same problems, though I wouldn't wish this bloated, painful business on anyone. I was banded yesterday, and my abdomen is harder today than after the surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
