Really? Carrots?

Recommended Posts

I brought a bag of carrots to munch on at work. I took a few bites, and OW! I didn't realize they would hurt so bad! This is the first time for eating carrots (raw) since banding... I chewed prettty well, but they still hurt. There goes carrots. I just tossed the bag into the trash because I'm not willing to try again. It's still slowly going down and I'm drinking Water to try to push it quicker. OW!

In my minid I'm a little shocked, I mean, carrots? COME ON!

Hi, I can bearly eat anything raw anymore, I love my fruits, I would not have even thought about carrots. I was surprised that I could eat a salad yesterday, hurt a little but all was well. Take it be, it did not have cucumbers, tomatoes, or anything thick. It had a few carrots, but shredded fine. It is a learning process I tell ya.

Same here, I don't eat anything raw, and for the most part don't eat cooked veggies unless they are mushy which takes the fun and flavor out of it.

Sad  :: I used to love my veggies...

Oh, my.....I'll never forget the first raw carrot I tried to eat - it sounded like a good idea at the time. Never again! I did boil them, however, mashed them up with cinnamon and sweetner and made a good little side dish out of them.

I love raw veggies, they taste great and are so good for you. I was having a lot of problems at first as well. I can never just eat a handful of carrots alone but enjoy them very much with other things near.

I learned that I can eat them if I eat them with something else. A little cottage cheese is healthy and goes a long way. I have just learned to incorporate them in a way that they have something a little softer near. I might alternate bites and everything goes down OK this way.

Cucumbers with the skin peeled partially ( i usually peel stripes out of the skin) are wonderful and they go down really well. Tomatoes and green pepper work ok as well.

Some fruits are also a problem with me. Sometimes I will eat apples with a little vanilla yogurt near and that works good even when apples alone don't always go down pleasantly.

There's lots of stuff that as I feel it getting stuck I just think "Oh COME ON". Like deli meat, I can't get over that. A teeny tiny piece feels like I swallowed a baseball.

I don't eat carrots, but I know a lot of veggies I eat in salads can be a doozy depending on the time of day. You learn as you go, eh?

I haven't tried carrots - thanks for the warning - I have pretty much stayed away from salads since being banded but I have tried cucumbers from a veggie tray - and made sure I chewed and chewed and chewed and they went down ok. I notice that the cucumber is not full of carbs so whenever I want a crunchy good tasting veggie that is what I go for.

Hi Mrs'

I don't know about others but I find trying to "wash" anything that seems stuck down with Water only makes it worse. Walk around and do some tapping on the sternum, that usually helps a lot. Every day is a new lesson.

I have my first fill tomorrow so I am not sure how this is going to affect me... But I currently eat carrots. I have a couple foods that already get stuck if I don't slow down so I am thinking carrots might have to go atleast the raw ones.

Has anyone tried peeling them, does that help? I might have to switch to steamed carrots or something and just season them. They are my favorite veggie  I hate having to eliminate something that is good for me.

agreatknead- I'll try that next time. I have noticed it doesn't seem to help it much.

Brandy- cook carrots are fine for me... mine didn't have any skin on them. As others have said though, it might be worth a try WITH something... just soften the edges I guess. lol. I don't know... now I'm scared!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
