Hi,

I am really depressed again. Spent a whole week being good, eating right and exercising. Went from 185.5 back down to 182. I was really convinced I would get in the 170's this week, since I have been plateauing for more than 2 months now.

I get on the scale this morning and I am back up to 185.5 again. How is this possible? I exercised for almost 4 hours at thge gym and jazzercise last week, walked on Saturday for about 4 miles or so and I am back where I started a week ago!!! I did not have a day where I ate more than 1200 calories except for Sunday when I ate at a CHinese buffet. For the most part, I made wise food choices except for dessert. I had a piece of cake and some chocolate ice cream. How can I gain 3.5 lbs from that?

God I want to screaaaaammmmmmm!!!!! Uggggh!

Give me some love here.... I am struggling and I feel like I am ready to go on an all liquid diet for two weeks to see if we can jump start this baby already.

Babs you are probably gaining muscle. Also, Chinese sometimes causes Water weight gain.

I wouldn't worry about it so much right now, wait for a few days and try again. Maybe your body is telling you that this is the perfect weight for you also.

Hi Betty,

I hope that I will not be stuck in "just overweight" purgatory forever. And I hope that I am not doomed to be a size 14 bottom/12 top forever as well. I still feel really fat.

I am figuring like you said: ITs gotta be the chinese food and the sodium thing. I am also due to get my "monthly friend" today or tomorrow, so thats probably not helping much either. And thats probably another reason I feel like being mad!!!

Babs,

I think you answered your own question. My daughter (who is my clone when I was her age) has been trying to lose weight and is on Meridia. She has been doing great and lost about 6 pounds. We had Chinese last night and she was so dissapointed that she gained a pound. I'm actually surprised it was only 1 pound with the Chinese food.

Don't get too discouraged because I think you figured out the problem on your own.

Good Luck....you WILL do it!!!!

Chris

Babs, I know for me, I do not lose lbs but I lose inches. It is a mind set we have to get over, we can not let the scale dictate to us on our success. Inches lost is just as good as lbs lost in my book. How are your clothes fitting? Any looser? I went from a 16-12 quickly with not much lbs lost , it was the inches. Don't get discouraged. You know you are doing everything right ;)

The scale will move but in the meantime focus on the possitive things you have noticed from working out so diligently and eating healthier.

Hi Michelle,

I have noticed that my pants are a little looser (the 14's) and that none of my tops fit anymore. i need to do a new clothing purge soon. Thanks for bringing this up. I guess I was just hoping that I would make it into the mid 170's before the plastic surgery work would begin....

When we lived in a 2 story, we bought a new scale & put it on the balcony cause the bathroom was too small. Next day Chris came home & tried to weigh himself, but the scale was gone. He asked where it went. Well, after I gained 5 pounds in one day, I kicked the piece of crap off the balcony and left it for the landscapers to clean up. Chris looked over and it was still down there broken.

Moral: Get rid of the friggin scale. You are hot, you've behaved perfectly, so just get rid of the bastard.

When was the last time you had a professional body fat mesaurement taken? It may be that your fat% is right where it should be. I know that you said your surgeon said you had at least 15 pounds of skin that will go when you have your procedures done.

Throw your scale off Lisa's balcony, have that professional body fat test done, and have your plastic surgury!

I know you have been agaonizing for months over this. (((hugs))) Time to act!

Come on, Babs, cut it out! Don't you bloat up like the rest of us just before the old friend (some friend!) comes to call? It's a drag to feel fat -- and when you've lost over 100 lbs., as you have, and have been eating right and exercising like a fiend, it's just not right!

I'm with DeLarla: the scale is a bastard and you should chuck it. Now put on some of those baggy size 14s (surely you must realize how envious most of us are about that one), and pull your socks up. Yeah, we love you, but when you beat yourself up, some of us just want to kick your bony ass!

Hi Again:

Lisa - I know the scale is accurate. I started my journey on the scale I am on now. NoOOOOO, I havent thrown it out a window yet, but I might do that tomorrow if there isnt an improvement.

Vinesqueen: I still have a high body fat index. At least thats what was indicated on my docs 5,000 tanita scale in his office and what the folks at Curves used to tell me. It might be time to go and get tested by a professional to see where I am really at....

Zoe: "kicking bony ass"" MMMM, that reminds me of the movie "Working Girl" where Melanie Griffith tells Sigorney Weaver, "If you dont get out of my way, I gonna kick your bony ass...!" OR something like that.. My ass will never be bony, but thanks for the compliment

Paula: Ya missed the boat. I started at 185.5 ten days ago and dropped 3.5 pounds only to put them back on. I am back to 185.5 as of this morning!

Well, I was a good girl so far today. Had no Breakfast, ate 4 turkey meatballs and 6 wheat crackers for lunch. Just ate another meatball and 2 crackers and dinner will be salmon with brussel sprouts and a couple of teaspoons of low carb mashers. I just got back from the gym where I burned 400 calories in an hour on the elliptical and the stationary bike. I will probably have some popcorn tonight and a fat free pudding. Crap, I hate dieting!!!

Babs, our bodies adjust to a particular workout and will stop responding to it. My massage therapist was trying to lose a few pounds and worked our with aerobic dancing every single night in a class. She had been doing it for so many years though that her body gains and loses as if she never gets that daily work out. Try something completely different for a day or two. I had stopped Water aerobics after my car accident a few months ago and had been at a plateau ever since. I rejoined the water aerobics and ate correctly last week and promptly lost 5 lbs. It wouldn't hurt to try something different just to see what happens.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
