Where did my fill go?!?!

Recommended Posts

I went for my third fill yesterday. Over the last couple of months, I have noticed how hungry I get and how much I can eat, so I decided that I needed a fill. My surgeon usually does my fills under flouro, but due to finances, I asked him to do it in office. He agreed.

Once on the table, he was pulling out the old saline and I asked him how much came out, and said none, but not to worry, that this is not uncommon. I was at 2.5 cc's out of a 4 cc band. Now, because he did not do it under flouro, he didn't want to fill too tight because he was going to be out of town for the next week. He told me to wait 2 weeks, see how the restiction goes, and if not working out, come back and he will put me under flouro.

I am feaking out right now, thinking that I have a possible leak. I have heard of losing Fluid because of the helium balloon technique, but that does not mean I am not freaking out. Hope that is all that is wrong. I guess we will find out in a couple of weeks. Any advise would be appreciated on this subject and if anyone has delt with this before, please let me know so that I will know I am not in this alone. Thank you.

It is very common to lose a fill due to a small leak. Next time have him fill it with omnipaque (spelling). It is like fixing a flat tire. It worked for me when I had small leak and lost part of my fill.

What is this omnipaque (spelling)?

I had my 8th fill in office no flouro & no restriction could eat like a horse. Going back for fill july 8-08.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
