Experiencing very slow weight loss

Recommended Posts

Hi. My name is NikkiH and I was banded September 2006. I really have not lost that much weight. I started out at 237 and I weigh currently 211. It seems that over the years I have tried everything to lose the weight . I thought that this was going to be the answer. Sadly, the surgery did not really help me that much. Prior to surgery I had a difficult time losing weight While the band controls my food intake the weight loss has been slow and no I am too embarrassed to go back to the doctor.:) Lately I have been experiencing some mid-back pain. At first I though I slept in a bad position but now I think that it could be something more. Whenever I eat anything solid it feels as if the food is scraping my esophagus as it goes down and when it gets to the banded area it feels as if I am having some sort of spasm. It is very painful for a few seconds. I am very disappointed with my progress> I thought by now I would be at least 50-75 pounds lighter. What am I doing wrong?:)

You should never be embarrassed to go to the doctors. Maybe the band was never filled, maybe its detached. Who knows. But remember a doctor saw you naked at birth, saw you in all your glory for the surgery and is the only person to help you with this problem. They don't like to see people fail either, so go to the doctor....

go to your doctor. Yes it will suck but it is the only way to find out what is going on. He may scold you but in the long run it will be beneficial that you get your band checked and filled! Goodluck.

Hope you are listening to the wisdom ... You may have something detached, slipped or blown- You MUST go back to the Dr that banded you or at least to an after-care provider for some proffessional advice- please .. do it!

I agree with all the other posters that you should definitely go to the doctor. I'm a new bandster and have yet to have a fill. But I have a few questions if you don't mind.

Have you had a fill? How many? When was the last one?

Does your back pain occur after you eat and feel the food scraping?

Or does it just hurt on it's own? How long?

I had a similar problem/experience for a while and just wanted some more info before sharing my diagnosis and/or prognosis.

I would start with the doctor to see why you're experiencing this. I am sure once it's cleared up, you have fills, you will hit sweet spot and begin losing!

Please let us know how it goes.

You have to go in to your Doctor. If you are not or have not been part of an after care program that teaches you how to use the band, then you have to find one. The band isn't a quick fix, it is interactive and requires full participation to reap the benefits. I had my surgery over 3 years ago and have lost over 160 lbs. It took a lot of work, and lifestyle changes. My surgeon has a program that concentrates on the counseling to help you make those changes. Don't give up on your band, find a team that can help you learn how to use it.................

Like the others before me, I'd seriously advise you to see your doctor as soon as possible. The fact that you haven't been losing weight after all this time should be the BIGGEST reason you should see him. Your doctor wants you to succeed, afterall, you went through with the surgery.

Your doctor cannot be blamed if he should be upset. Yes, he may scold you, because it just shows that he cares. Just listen attentively and understand that he has your best interests at heart, and do what he says.

Pain is not a good sign. Pain is your body's way of telling you that something isn't right. You should not be having pain or vomiting after eating. It is imperative that you follow up with your doctor right away, so that he can check your band and give you the advice that you need. With the band, it is very important to follow up with your doctor on a consistent and regular basis.

Do not cheat yourself of the success you deserve. We fellow bandsters would like you to succeed in your weight loss, so please follow up and call your doctor today, ASAP!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
