Post Surgery check in here

Hello everyone,

I googled those Protein bullets and a post from this site came up. It told all about them. So search for whey Protein bullets on here and read those e-mails. It also listed several websites to buy/check out other Proteins that helped them. Hope this helps.

Greetings from Sizzling Texas!!

I joined the "band" wagon this morning. Went in at 6:00am, surgery at 7:00am and was home by noon.. I am enjoying my nectar Protein whey drinks, the one I have tastes like a Pina Colada!!! YUMMY!!! I got mine at the Vitamin Shoppe, they have tons of flavors..

I didn't know it but I also had a Hernia!!! They repaired that while in there..

The only pain I have is where my rib cage and my muscle wall have come apart. It happened in March when I had my gall bladder taken out.. Other than that doing great!!:tt2::)

My surgery was yesterday (Wednesday). I was last (sixth) and went in around 12:30. I was the only one without a hernia. Maybe that has helped me to not be in too much pain. So far this is not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I have a sore abdomen and the left shoulder discomfort but none of it is very bad. :blushing:

Today I am really sore! The thing that bothers me the most is my throat. I woke up every few hours last night because of my throat. I am also having problems getting all of my fluids in. I am suppossed to have 1 to 2 ounces of fruit juice or broth every hour that I am awake, and of course Water constantly in between. Whenever I drink something though I can an extremely full feeling that is very uncomfortable and lasts quite a while. I am taking tiny sips, so I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I know that this sounds like a broken record, but those glycerin suppositories were a God send to me. I was just like you, couldn't drink very much. I literally started getting malnourished. I was just constipated, with a little of nothing, but a little of nothing that was blocking me up to my eyeballs. Instant relief with the supp. I had to use them a couple of times a day for a few days, now I have only used them once or twice since. Just so nice to know they are there. I will never be without them. I hope you all have great success and less and less gas pain.

It's totally normal to feel full after a sip of Water. Just keep sipping. Tiny sips are just fine. Every time you think of it, just take a small sip. I dehydrated the 2nd day and threw up (nothing, of course was in me) and it was because I felt sick and didn't want to drink anything incase which just made it totally worse. Once I started drinking again, I felt so much better. You're going to feel like you have a lot of pressure on your chest for a few days (at least I did) so that's why you probably feel so full. It will go away and you'll be able to drink a lot more. If you can get someone to go to GNC and buy the New Whey Protein Bullets (as mentioned up above) they are 42 grams of Protein and I just pour them over crushed ice, add some water to dilute them a bit and sip on those. Grape was really good once it wasn't so strong tasting.

Good luck! You will feel better in a few days!!!:blushing:

I joined the band on Tuesday, 6/24 and came home yesterday late afternoon. Things went well - pain in my chest and shoulder from gas - but nothing I can't tolerate. I actually feel alot better than I thought I would! I am enjoying my broth and crystal light and who could believe that Jello could taste so good!

Hi Everyone. I had my surgery on Thursday and got home late Friday night. I had quite a bit of vomiting while in the hospital, but it finally let up, and the doctor let me go home. I've been doing fairly well, but having lots of gas pains. I'm walking and taking Gas-X.. I guess it will just be a matter of time. I'm also really struggling to get my Protein in. The last thing I want to do is "eat." I'm really trying though.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Hi, had my surgery on Tuesday the 24th. Feeling 100% today after several days of "belching" and discomfort. Anyone else feeling hungry? Today is the first day I'm wanting to eat something and it's driving me nuts. I had Farina today for the first time (1/2 cup) and thought I would feel full but no luck. I guess self control is already at hand!!!!!

Hello Everyone.

I was banded on June 27th in Olympia, WA. Everything went very smoothly. Checked into the hospital at 5:30 AM-Surgery around 8 AM and in the car and on the way home by 12:30 PM.

Still very sore, especially in the port area, but trying to get up and walk around as much as possible. Have been sleeping in my recliner chair as I am afraid if I lay down I won't be able to get up by myself.

The journey has begun!

I can't thank the support groups enough as I have had no unexpected surprises.

Hi, I had my surgery on 6/23. I was surprisingly in more pain that I thought I would be. Yesterday was the first day I felt comfortable without pain medication. I went through 2 bottles of liquid lortab in one week. I couldn't drink my Protein Shake or even much Water. I drank 4oz. of my Protein shake and felt a knot in my stomach. I am much better now and drinking lots of water. I go to my doctor today for a one week post-op exam. Then I go to the nutritionist on July 10th for my first post-op nutrition class. Everyone seems to have done better than me early on. Maybe I have a low pain tolerance.

Hi Greatlyblessed.

I hurt a lot too after the surgery. It also surprised me. I was on morphine when I woke up and 1000mg of paracetamol after that regularly. I woke up every hour during my first night in hospital in quite a bit of pain. Mainly when I moved.

Almost two weeks later I still have quite considerable pain in my port area (but that is because it is located so high up next to my bra)... but other than that the other sites are almost pain free..

Everyone reacts differently to this surgery. That much I have found from reading all the different messages. If you are in pain, take a painkiller.. that is what they are there for.. you will be ok!.. just make sure you don't have a fever, redness or swelling at your incision sites, or heat.

Take care and rest up..

Kizzie

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
