Im getting some redness around the cuts and the sticky tape stuff left after the doc took the tape off and some itching. So what can i do about the crap the tap left behind? what works for itching? and should i worry about the redness? its not too bad right now, but should i ask the doc monday?

And... should i be cleaning the cuts? There are no longer covered.

My surgeon told me to let soapy Water run over the incision sites and then rinse in the same way, but not to scrub them. The redness sounds normal to me as I also had that. My surgeon told me I could use fingernail polish remover to get the adhesive off, but he warned me not to get it in the incisions as it would hurt a lot. Since I don't like pain, I waited and got it off gradually every time I bathed. Of course, you should always contact your doctor if you are concerned. Don't be shy about that...that's what they are there for! Happy healing!

Hello. I also had a little redness around the cuts. If it gets too red be careful. And as far as cleaning them, yes just use soap and Water. Dont scrub. Now I used rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball to get the nasty adhesive stuff off me. It came off in about just a minute without having to scrub. And I was just careful not to get in cuts, but if I went over one it didnt hurt/burn.

I am allergic to adhesive and I itched like CRAZY after the tape come off and they put the steri-strips on (which only lasted 3 days before they ate holes in my skin). I took liquid benadryl for the itching and after the incisons were healed good the nurse told me to use baby oil on a cotton ball to get the excess adhesive off. It worked well.

I also found out through this that I'm alergic to the adhesive. Wow...that part was almost worse than the surgery. I got big blistering sores from it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
